Xlibris gives you the tools you need to become your own publisher. Xlibris continuously offers new publishing services that open the marketplace of published books to everyone. In addition, Xlibris’ dedicated team of customer service representatives is available to help you every step of the way in order to ensure a seamless and successful publication process.

Overview

In strategic partnership with Random House Ventures, Xlibris offers a complete set of publishing services to cater to a wide range of needs, wants and budget: from high-end publishing products and marketing services to entry level services.

With Xlibris, the author retains complete creative control as well as the book's ownership rights.

Xlibris books are distributed through Ingram Distribution and Baker & Taylor. These distributors will make the author’s book available for sale with over 200 online retailers, including Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com and Borders.com. Traditional bookstores can order through the distribution network.

History

A pioneer in the self-publishing and POD (Print On Demand) industry, Xlibris has been successfully turning writers into authors for nine years since 1997. One of the very first people who believed in Xlibris and the industry in general is a best-known sci-fi author in the business. In December 1997, he and his wife became a part of Xlibris as venture capitalists. Later, Random House formed a close and complementary partnership with Xlibris.

Founder and CEO, John Feldcamp, states "Xlibris is not a publishing company, but rather an enabling service which provides the infrastructure to allow everyone to become their own publisher."

Interesting Facts

Unlike most other POD companies who use only one printer to print books, Xlibris uses multiple printers depending on the requirements of each manuscript or customer. For the vast majority of books, they use Berryville Graphics - the same printer used by Random House. For large-run orders, they use offset printers. This personalized production is one of Xlibris’ edges.

Xlibris also offers first-rate digital color publication through the Picture Book Service. Xlibris picture books contain ample space for full-page spreads of full-bleed images. Xlibris produces library-quality hardback volumes with a glossy dust jacket, printed on the highest-quality paper stock and laminated for durability and shelf life. When someone is looking for a POD company that does full color books, Xlibris is generally their first stop, as their reputation for printing the best quality picture books is well known in the industry.

Xlibris library now holds more than 17,000 titles and clearly, that number is still growing. Xlibris has had its share of authors’ success stories. Self-published authors who moved on with traditional publishing said that the only reason their book was noticed in the first place was because of the Xlibris version.
