Eryngium alpinum (Alpine Sea Holly) is a species of Eryngium, native to the Alps, Jura, and northwestern Balkan mountains.
It is a herbaceous perennial plant growing to 60 cm tall, with spiny leaves 8-15 cm long. The flowers are bluish to white, and produced in dense umbels 4 cm long and 2 cm diameter with a ring of white to violet or blue basal bracts.
It is cultivated as an ornamental plant for the pale flowerhead bracts and stark growth form to add contrast in gardens.
