Besancon Hugue - Court of Miracles In Paris. Made famous by Victor Hugo in the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Now legendary, used metaphorically. I do not know the original history of the term. - Tribu-Ka Black extremist group based in Paris, recently committed provocations against Jews. Unknown girl of the Seine, in French, "L'inconnue de la Seine" The Girl from the River Seine At the turn of this century, the body of a young girl was pulled from the River Seine in Paris. There was no evidence of violence and it was assumed she had taken her own life. Because her identity could not be established, a death mask was made, as was customary in such cases. The young girl’s delicate beauty and ethereal smile added to the enigma of her death. Romantic stories that speculated on this mystery were published. According to one, her death was the result of an unrequited romance. This story became popular throughout Europe, as did reproductions of her death mask. 1958: Asmund S. Laerdal of Stavanger, Norway, a doll and toy maker by trade, began work along with Dr. Peter Safar, on a life-like manikin for training people in mouth to mouth resuscitation. He believed that if such a manikin was life-sized and extremely realistic in appearance, students would be better motivated to learn this lifesaving procedure. Inspired by the mask of the young girl who died so young, he commissioned the well-known sculptress Emma Mathiassen to model a manikin face in her likeness. Thus, the spirit of the Girl from the River Seine again came to life as Resusci Anne in 1960. There is an article on this topic in the German wikipedia site: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Die_Unbekannte_aus_der_Seine Châtelain de Châtillon
