Twenty-Third Army (Japan)

The Japanese Twenty-Third Army was formed 26 June 1941 commanding troops in Guangdong province and Hainan Island. It replaced the Southern China Area Army disbanded 26 June 1941.

It surrendered to the Chinese on August 15, 1945. It was commanded by General Hitoshi Imamura from 28 June 1941 to 6 November 1941. Lt. General Takashi Sakai commanded it from 6 November 1941 to 1 March 1943. Lt. General Hisaichi Tanaka held the command from 1 March, 1943 to the Surrender in September 9, 1945.
