International Solidarity Movement

The International Solidarity Movement (ISM) is a Palestinian organization that recruits civilians from western countries to participate in non-violent acts of resistance against Israeli activites in the occupied territories. Despite the similarity in name, the ISM has no relationship with the international socialist movement Solidarity.

Although the ISM itself uses non-violent confrontation, it recognizes violent resistance as being a legitimate means of Palestinian struggle.

Past ISM campaigns have used the following strategies:

  • Acting as human shields to deter Israeli military operations.
  • Physically removing roadblocks put in place by the Israeli IDF.
  • Attempting to block military vehicles such as tanks and bulldozers.
  • Violating curfew orders.
