Borovo, Croatia
Borovo (Serbian Cyrillic: Борово), previously called Borovo Selo (Serbian Cyrillic: Борово Село), is a village and a municipality in western Srem (Vukovar-Srem County), Croatia. It has a population of 5,360 (2001). The majority of the population are Serbs.
The village of Borovo is located a few kilometers north from Vukovar, and the neighbourhood of the northwestern part of Vukovar is named Borovo Naselje (the Borovo settlement) after it.
In 1991, it was briefly in the spotlight as the site of the Borovo Selo killings.
Borovo Naselje is the industrial part of the city of Vukovar(not to be mistaken with Borovo Selo). Previously a "stand alone" region built around the "Borovo" factory, it grew and finally merged with Vukovar.
Borovo Naselje sprung up around the rubber products factory, built and owned by Ian Bata before the WW II. The entire town was built around the factory to provide housing for the employees, schools for their children and such.
After Borovo Naselje's merge with Vukovar, it shed its name and became a part of Vukovar, but its still known as "Borovo naselje" among the locals.
