Kenneth "Kenny" Hahn was a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for forty years from 1952 to 1992. Prior to his election, Hahn served on the Los Angeles City Council. He was an ardent supporter of civil rights throughout the 1960s, and became greatly respected in the African-American community of Los Angeles. His son James K. Hahn was elected Mayor of Los Angeles in 2001, but was defeated by Antonio Villaraigosa in 2005. His daughter, Janice Hahn, currently sits on the City Council, representing San Pedro and Wilmington.

Hahn is memorialized by a large park in Baldwin Hills, the Kenneth J. Hahn Recreation Area. The 103rd Street-Kenneth Hahn station on the Blue Line is named in his honor. Kenneth Hahn is intermened at the Cathedral of Los Angeles in Downtown under the church.
