Big Brother (British TV series) series 6
Big Brother 6 in 2005 was the sixth series of Big Brother in the UK, a reality television show on Channel 4, in which a number of contestants live an isolated existence in a purpose-built house who try to avoid being evicted by public vote, with the aim of winning a large cash prize at the end of the run. This series lasted for 11 weeks, currently the second-longest that the series has run for. It was won by Anthony Hutton. Unfortunately the show surpassed the fourth series for receiving the lowest viewer ratings of all the Big Brother series due to having housemates who were considered unpopular with the viewers, as a result when they were evicted, the majority of them were greeted with negative reception from the crowd. Also, the constestants had failed the most amount of house tasks of all the series and post eviction wise, all but three (Sam, Saskia and Orlaith who had part time career as glamour models for lads mags) had unsucessfully managed to sustain a long term showbiz career, making it the least amount of contestants to do so in any series within a year after the show ended.
The sixth series began on 27 May 2005 and ended on 12 August of the same year. The broadcaster, Channel 4, made their previously subscription-only E4 channel available on Freeview from the start of this series.
Housemates
Anthony Hutton
Anthony Hutton (born 1982) is a 70s dancer from Consett in County Durham. Anthony won Big Brother 6, narrowly beating Eugene and walking away with £50,000. During his stay in the house, he became best friends with "bunny-boiler" Craig, who some thought was obsessing over him. In Week 6, it was rumoured that he had had sex with Makosi in the pool. Makosi denied this at first, but later claimed she was "95% certain" that she was pregnant with his baby. During their final interviews on leaving the house, Kemal, Craig (who was in the pool at the time) and Anthony all denied the couple had had sex. However, Makosi's side of the story has been backed up in print by Orlaith; Maxwell believes they had sex, and Craig also thought this at the time (it is not known when he changed his mind). Makosi sold her story to the News of the World saying she did have sex with Anthony. The same day the story went on sale, both contestants appeared on the BBLB Reunion show. During his interview, Anthony shouted over to Makosi 'You're a liar!' and had to be told to calm down by the show's presenter, Dermot O'Leary.
Anthony has the unusual honour of being the first Big Brother UK winner to be booed before entering the house, due to his insistence on posing and performing his trademark dance moves for the crowd (once in the house he told his fellow housemates that the security guards who told him to move along were the ones who were being booed). Since leaving Big Brother, Anthony refuses to criticise Craig, perhaps recognising how much Craig helped him to win. Craig has said in a radio interview that he and Anthony are no longer friends. Both were close friends during the last weeks of the show.
Craig Coates
Craig Coates (born 1983) is a hair stylist from Cromer, Norfolk. During his time in the House, he became famous in the media for his allegedly possessive nature over fellow housemate Anthony, earning himself the title of "Bunny Boiler". Just missing out on the final, Craig was evicted with the least number of votes to win two days before the final. Like Kemal, in his interview with Davina he did not confirm his sexuality although to some he left it pretty obvious that he was gay. He said he had difficulty admitting his sexuality and refused to do so. Asked about his feelings for Anthony, he confessed to having a crush on him in the beginning of the show, but adamantly said he saw him as a friend.
As of August 06 Craig has returned to Norfolk,ostensibly because he wanted to return to hairdressing;it may be that his inability to get any work in the media or TV was a contributing factor.
Derek Laud
Derek Laud (born 9 August 1964) is a speech writer and for the Conservative Party originally from Battersea but now living in Kensington. An unusual choice of housemate, he was middle aged and had a posh sounding accent.
Derek was a unique member of the house and his dry sense of humour made him popular with viewers. During his time in the house, he formed close friendships with fellow housemates Kemal, Eugene and Roberto but was disliked by others, particularly Orlaith and Anthony. In his role as House quiz master, many viewers felt that Derek's prestigious accent lent a spurious air of authority to his somewhat less than perfect general knowledge. This meant that, inside the BB6 House, his answers — even when wrong — were nearly always accepted by the housemates without question.
The last housemate to be up for eviction, he was voted out on Day 71 (August 5), receiving 58% of the vote against his friend Eugene. Derek not only got the best reaction from the crowds on his eviction night but also on the last night. He surpassed all the others in the volume of the cheering. Kemal was a guest at Derek’s 41st Birthday party a few days later.
New Nation reported that despite a request for interviews, Derek Laud had refused to talk to them or to the 'black media' generally.
Eugene Sully
Eugene (born November 30, 1977) is from Crawley in West Sussex. He attained a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronic Engineering 2000 from the University of Sussex and helped manage the student radio station. Prior to his period in the Big Brother house, he worked as an engineer for Beat 106 in Scotland before becoming a Spectrum Planning Engineer for the BBC Research & Development department; he also unsuccessfully stood as a Labour Party candidate in Sussex prior to going into the Big Brother house. Although Eugene came second in BB6, he emerged from the house £50,000 richer after being offered (and accepting) half of the prize fund in the final week. Eugene began by entering the so-called "Secret Garden" before entering the house on Day 32 after being voted in by Makosi (see Day 30). During his time in the house, he formed close friendships with fellow housemates Derek and Kinga.
Since leaving the BB house, Eugene has presented the breakfast show on Mercury FM (Surrey & Sussex) and appeared on ''Blue Peter'', ''Top of the Pops'' and the children's show Dick and Dom in da Bungalow as well as being a contestant on the BBC2 quiz show ''Eggheads'' with a team he called "Eugenius", he has also carried out interviews on various radio stations and also appeared on Brainiac: Test Tube Baby where he set up experiments and was judged and got 20 out of 30 (2006). He also appeared on Channel 4's "8 Out Of 10 Cats: Big Brother Special" in August 2006. He is currently in training to become a pilot.
He also attended an awards ceremony for the Closer magazine honouring gifted children. There is also talk that there may be a possibility that Eugene may have a diagnosis of Aspergers' Syndrome, but this has not yet been proven. He is also a member of the IEE and a member of the Crawley Amateur Radio Club.
In 2006, Eugene stood in the council election for the ward of Furnace Green, Crawley, West Sussex, as a candidate for the Labour Party. He came second to Michael Weatherley, the Conservative candidate, who polled 1004 votes to Eugene's 457. [1] According to BBC News Online, it is believed Eugene wishes to stand as a Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Labour Party, at the forthcoming General Election.
Eugene is also a disc jockey at an Internet-based station based in Worthing called Passion Radio where he has a pre-recorded programme which is regularly transmitted on Sunday mornings between 0700 and 1000 hours, and earlier in the summer of 2006 he presented a weekday programme for Uckfield FM during their festival campaign. He has recently locked himself in a studio at a station in Oxford where he is now a chief engineer, where he played the Muppets theme tune constantly for six hours until his managers came round to his way of thinking that better music was played on the station.
Kemal Shahin
Kemal Shahin (born November 1985) is a Turkish Cypriot originally from London. He is a university student living in Liverpool. He is also a part time belly dancer and used to work in a passport office. When quizzed by Davina about his sexuality, he answered, "I don't know. Who can say? I'm looking for a man." (Despite this, he was photographed many months later dating fellow contestant Kinga (see below)), so he may actually be bisexual.
Kemal was mostly remembered for his flamboyant fashion sense, his outspoken manner, catty arguments with other housemates and his hilarious visits to the diary room. During his stay in the house, he became good friends with Derek Laud whom he fondly referred to as Grandpa.
He was the thirteenth person to enter the Big Brother house (dressed in a red sari) and the ninth to leave (in a green sari) on July 29, gaining 51.1% of the public vote.
He appeared on Sky News in early 2006 with fellow contestant Makosi Musambasi where they stunned the female newsreader with their bickering.
He was close to Makosi in the beginning but turned against her towards the end of his stay in a paranoid fashion.
Kemal has proved to be one of the most popular housemates from the series since and is a regular feature in magazines and on television. He is currently setting up online accessories store missblingbaby.com and will be starring in Pantomime later this year in Torquay and Runcorn as the Fairy God Diva in Cinderella for the second year running.
Kinga Karolczak
Kinga Karolczak (born 1985) is a half Polish, half Kuwaiti market researcher from London. Kinga began her stay in the Secret Garden with Orlaith and Eugene but was not chosen to enter the house by Makosi. The day after Orlaith walked from the show, however, she was sent into the house as a replacement. Kinga settled into the house fairly quickly, however after a night of excessive drinking (of non-alcoholic wine) she sexually stimulated herself on the lawn with an empty wine bottle, much to the horror of the other housemates and public alike - generating 200 complaints. Aside from this, she made an unlikely friendship with Derek, claimed she could sing an octave higher than Mariah Carey and formed a comical duo with Eugene. Kinga finished in fourth place.
Since the house Kinga has featured in many newspaper and magazine articles, and has also claimed to have fallen in love with fellow BB6 contestant Kemal Shahin. They have since broken up after Kemal ended their relationship. She recently played at the Celebrity World Cup Soccer Six Tournament.
Lesley Sanderson
Lesley Sanderson is a sales assistant from Huddersfield. She was the second person to be evicted from the Big Brother house, on June 10 (Day 15), gaining 36% of the public vote.
It was widely suspected Lesley's eviction was cemented over how she bullied fellow contestant Sam. Both were unpopular with the public, but viewers did not approve of her treatment towards Sam. Such behaviour including making scathing comments about Sam when she was in the room and also stealing her make-up bag. Lesley was repeatedly warned by Big Brother after she had made verbal threats towards her.
In Autumn of 2005, Lesley was allegedly raped in a hotel in Leeds[2]. Also she claims that since Big Brother she has struggled to cope with fame and developed a drinking problem.
Since leaving the Big Brother House, Lesley is embarking on a singing career. She was due to record a single called Hated and plans to write a book about her experiences[3]. The People reports that she was paid £15,000 for Big Brother.
Makosi Musambasi
Makosi Musambasi (born 24 September 1980) was the most controversial housemate of BB6 and was strongly disliked by a number of housemates and viewers towards the end. She is a registered cardiac nurse, who worked in a coronary care unit, originally from Zimbabwe but now living in High Wycombe. She was the subject of a story in The Sun during the final week which claimed that a talent agency had invoiced the producers of Big Brother for £609 for procuring her services; The Sun alleged that this proved she was in fact an actress rather than a genuine contestant. This was denied by Big Brother on the finale night, with the explanation that the money was paid to the talent agency (which does represent Makosi) for work relating to the supplementary show Big Brother's Big Mouth.
Makosi was one of the favourites to win the show in the first five weeks. On week 2 when all the housemates were up for eviction, Makosi received the least amount of public votes to evict. However in week six, Makosi shocked the nation by allegedly having sex in the pool with Anthony and later revealing that she thought she may be pregnant. At one point a tearful Makosi asked Big Brother for a pregnancy test, and contemplated that she would name the child 'Jacuzzi'. Anthony has strongly and repeatedly denied they had full intercourse.
The Sun Online had also stated that Makosi had told of how she had managed to entice Eugene to have sexual intercourse, which is, of course, untrue.
Makosi came third with 8.9% of the vote. Her interview with Davina McCall was poorly received, with the audience booing and shouting "liar" all the way through. As the interview neared its end, chants of "off, off, off" were yelled by the crowd. 450 viewers complained about the interview and Davina McCall's unusually harsh manner with Makosi to Channel 4 or Ofcom [4]. Speaking of this matter, Makosi herself has admitted that she found the interview "distressing" and that she felt Davina had done nothing to support her when the crowd heckled her.
In August 2006, Makosi tragically suffered a miscarriage four and a half months into her pregnancy.
Mary O'Leary
Mary O'Leary (born 30 May 1974) is a psychic advisor, writer, and practising white witch from London. She was born to a former priest and nun in Dublin, Ireland. She claims to remember a past life in Atlantis and that she has been abducted by aliens seven times.
At first, bookmakers and betting exchange punters rated Mary as the least likely to win Big Brother this year. Makosi nominated her for eviction after passing a task and she therefore faced a public vote at the end of the first week along with Craig and was evicted on 3 June 2005, with 60% of the public vote.
After her eviction, newspaper articles were published revealing that Mary had previously worked in a massage parlour where money was offered for sexual favours. However this has not been confirmed by Mary herself. She now wants to rid of her "witch" image in hopes of becoming an actress. She currently resides in London with fellow housemate Sam. Maxwell Ward
Maxwell Ward is an engineer from Islington, North London who supports Arsenal F.C.. He was the sixth evictee from the house, and left on July 8, with 57% of the public vote. During his time in the house, he formed a relationship with fellow housemate Saskia. It was rumoured that they had had sex a number of times, including under a blanket in the seating area and in their bed. That later resulted in an argument between the couple and Kemal, which ended in Maxwell throwing a glass of water over Kemal (following this Kemal noted that 'at least someone got wet tonight').
Maxwell was known as the "prankster" of the house, along with his fellow friend Anthony. For one of his pranks he claimed to have sprinkled a scab from his foot into Science's food, which caused massive controversy with viewers. The incident was investigated by Big Brother staff but no evidence was found to support it happening.
Orlaith McAllister
Orlaith McAllister (born April 26, 1979) is a business studies student, model and runner up in the 1999 Miss Northern Ireland contest to Zöe Salmon, the winner. She was Belfast's woman of the year in 2005. She entered the house on Day 32 after being voted in by Makosi (see Day 30).
After weeks of saying that she wanted to leave, she left voluntarily on Day 65 (July 30), the day after winning out on the public eviction against Kemal. She was replaced by Kinga.
Like Sam, she has since embarked on a career as a glamour model, appearing half-naked in weekly men's magazines such as Nuts and Zoo. Orlaith was one of the competitors in the 2006 Miss Great Britain contest, but, despite being favourite for the title lost out to Danielle Lloyd, Miss Warrington.
Roberto Conte
Roberto Conte (born 1973 in Italy), is a former teacher, and since 1996, has lived in Liverpool. He was once a paratrooper in the Italian army. He is a professional basketball player and windsurfer. He was also a finalist in the 1996 'Most Handsome Man in Italy' competition.
In the house he was famous for pouring a bowl of pasta over Maxwell's head, and calling Makosi 'a stupid bitch' followed by 'but I still love you'. He was the seventh person to enter the Big Brother house on 27 May 2005, and the fourth person to leave, on 24 June. He was up against Derek, and received 53% of the vote.
Since leaving the house Roberto has appeared on the chat show Heads Up with Richard Herring to discuss his time on Big Brother and his love of poker.
Roberto was a Religious Education teacher at St Edmund Of Canterbury Catholic High School in Huyton, Liverpool. [citation needed]
Sam Heuston
Sam Heuston (born 1982 in Surrey, England) is a marketing student from Cheam. She was the third person to be evicted from the Big Brother House, when faced against Derek and Roberto. She received 59% of the public vote when she was voted out on June 17 (Day 22).
Since leaving the Big Brother house, Sam has had photo shoots in The News of the World newspaper, in weekly men's magazines such as Nuts, Maxim and Zoo, and has declined offers of work from Playboy TV. She has also appeared on an episode of Italian Big Brother in the audience.
She is currently residing in London with fellow housemate Mary[citation needed].
Saskia Howard-Clarke
Saskia Howard-Clarke is a "promotions girl" from London. She was the fifth evictee from the house, on July 1. Saskia was put up for eviction with Maxwell, and gained a massive 71% of the public vote. She had received the highest percentage of any eviction vote in the whole series, a feat now held by BB7's Sezer.
In the first couple of weeks, Saskia proved to be popular with housemates and viewers alike. In week two when all of the housemates were up for eviction due to rule breaking, Saskia heard the positive public reception when the crowd cheered her name. However things took a wrong turn when a divide in the house occurred and two members of her group (Anthony and Maxwell) were banned from nominations - leaving Saskia in a vulnerable position of being nominated by the other group who sided with Makosi after a heated confrontation between the two. Some of the comments Saskia made in her argument with Makosi sparked a debate about racism being a factor in the house. In her post-eviction interview with Davina, she later denied the matter by stating the fact that she was a quarter-Sri Lankan, a statement that did not justify or alter the opinions of many viewers. Saskia's favourite quotes included "End Of" and "Game ON".
True to Big Brother fashion, Saskia and Maxwell continued their relationship after they left the house. It was reported in a tabloid newspaper on the 18th July 2006 that Maxwell and Saskia were no longer together.
Kieron "Science" Harvey
Science is a music and self-styled "entertainment entrepreneur" from Chapeltown, Leeds. He has a band called Urban Productions and has won a BBC award for documentary film making.
As one of the loudest and argument-prone of the housemates, Science found himself up for eviction twice (another two times when most of the housemates were up for eviction) during his stay at the Big Brother house. He was mostly known for his philosophical views of life, love of music (he also rapped quite a lot in the house) and a dogmatic nature that caused him to clash with almost every housemate in the house.
In his final week in the house he found himself being ignored by all of the other housemates, bar Makosi. Derek Laud appeared to play a leading role in his isolation. He was finally evicted in week eight when up against Orlaith McAllister in the second closest public vote in Big Brother history with only one percent between the two housemates (50.5%/49.5%), on July 22.
Vanessa Layton-McIntosh
Vanessa Layton-McIntosh is a 19 year-old student from Croydon. She was the seventh person to be evicted from the house on July 15, chosen to leave by her fellow housemates, when faced against Makosi. (See Week 7). This was the second week Vanessa had faced eviction.
In week one, Vanessa was friends with Craig and Lesley. The three of them formed "Team Britney". However, after her nominations blunder in week two, the pair had turned their back on Vanessa. By week three, Craig had stopped talking to her completely. Following the break up of "Team Britney", she formed an alliance with Makosi and Kemal but soon started slandering Kemal.
Vanessa was rather unpopular with the viewers most particularly, and it was said that all she did was eat, sleep and talk about the other housemates behind their backs. She was on strong pain killers throughout a lot of her time in the house due to damaging her ankle and foot in a fall from a bed. When Vanessa heard the crowd booing her as Davina said her name, the reaction on her face caused the crowd to break into united laughter on two occasions.
Chronology
Week 1
The first housemate to enter the house was Derek Laud, a political figure on the right of the Conservative Party who was the first black Master of Foxhounds. He was followed by Lesley, Sam, Maxwell, Vanessa, Anthony, Roberto, Makosi, Craig, Mary, Science, Saskia and Kemal.
The "unlucky thirteenth" housemate was chosen randomly on Day One as Makosi, when she was first to respond to a call by Big Brother for "a housemate" to go to the diary room. Makosi was told she would automatically be up for eviction that week unless she managed to get the most nominations from her housemates, in which case she had to nominate two people for eviction. She was to keep this task secret. Makosi succeeded in her secret mission and chose Craig and Mary to be up for eviction on 3 June 2005. Mary was the viewers' choice for eviction.If nominations were normal this week then Roberto and Sam would face the public vote.
Week 2
During week 2, in a conversation with Lesley, Vanessa broke the game rules by discussing whom she would be nominating. Although the nominations still took place, Big Brother decided to ignore the results and ruled that, for the first time in the UK series, every housemate would be up for eviction. On 10 June 2005, Lesley was chosen to leave the house, although, if the nominations had not been nullified, she would not have been up for eviction and Derek and Sam would face eviction. Davina McCall had been hinting at it being a "popularity contest", and the housemates all became aware of the public view of them because they could hear their individual names being called out, whereupon the crowd cheered or booed.
Week 3
In Week 3, Craig, Derek and Roberto were banned from nominating after talking about the nomination procedure, breaking a key rule. Clips of their discussions (mainly concerning Saskia) were played into the house via the plasma screen in the living room. Derek, Roberto and Sam were announced as the nominees for eviction on Day 19. Sam was the least popular housemate out of the three, and was evicted to a mixed reception on Day 22.
Week 4
Week 4 saw the first traditional set of nominations of the series when, for the first time, all of the housemates' nominations were taken into account, and there was no twist to the format. Derek and Roberto received the most nominations from their fellow housemates, and Roberto was evicted on Day 29.
On Day 30, less than 24 hours after Kinga, Eugene and Orlaith had entered the Secret Garden, a red button appeared in the main house, with a sign saying "Do not press this button" above it, and the words "Press here" around it. After much discussion amongst the housemates, Makosi pressed the button and was immediately called to the Diary Room. She entered the Secret Garden, met Kinga, Eugene and Orlaith, and was instructed to help them by stealing food and other supplies from the main house. If she failed to do so or was discovered by her fellow housemates, she would be automatically put up for the public vote.
Makosi was successful once more. She managed to sneak out food to the secret housemates, and also getting them into the house to shower without being caught. However, while Maxwell was awaiting a delivery of ten cans of cider, Makosi took it upon herself to go into the diary room to collect the items. After being given the cider, Makosi whipped up an idea to "create drama" and give the cans to the secret housemates. An hour later, Makosi pretended to be drunk and the result was a fierce argument between Saskia and Makosi. After the argument, it was now clear a divide was in the house. The incident has since been named "Cidergate" and caused as much of a rift between viewers as it did between housemates.
Before completing the task, Makosi had to evict one housemate from the secret garden – she chose Kinga who later returned to the Big Brother house on Day 66 to replace Orlaith who walked a day earlier.
Week 5
In Week 5, for the third time, nominations had been discussed, this time between Maxwell and Anthony, so they were banned from nominating. Maxwell and Saskia, the "love birds", were put up for the public vote. As new housemates, Orlaith and Eugene were exempt. Saskia was evicted to a mixed reception on Day 36.
Week 6
In Week 6, Maxwell was evicted, having received 57 per cent of the public vote, much to the surprise of the other housemates. Both Maxwell and Science were booed by the crowd when Davina announced their names before the result of the public vote. Maxwell was evicted to a mixed reception on Day 43.
Week 7
In Week 7 Big Brother played mind games with the housemates, informing them that during the week Big Brother would lie twice. Big Brother then told housemates that nominations that week were optional. This was Big Brother's first lie. All nominations are compulsory, so the housemates who did not nominate were put to the public vote as punishment. When the results of the nominations were announced Big Brother stated that Anthony, Craig and Kemal were up for eviction. This was Big Brother's second lie. In fact, these three were the only housemates to nominate, so it was everyone else who was subject to the public vote. As an extra twist, the housemates had to pick whom to evict out of the two people with the most votes. These turned out to be Makosi and Vanessa, with Makosi receiving the largest percentage of votes. All of the housemates with the exception of Kemal chose Vanessa to be the 7th person to leave, so on Day 50, a tearful Vanessa was evicted from the house.
Week 8
In Week 8 nominations were made without any twists to the format. Science and Orlaith were the two housemates up for eviction with five and four votes respectively. Anthony and Eugene were the only housemates not to receive any votes this week. On Day 57, Science became the 8th housemate to be evicted from the Big Brother house. Science had a mixed reception by the public when his name had been called by Davina. Science was evicted with 50.5% of the vote, which was the second closest eviction result in Big Brother history. Science was very calm about his eviction but was shocked at his reception
Week 9
For Week 9 the housemates were given a secret agent task to complete. Amusingly, Kemal, who had been convinced of there being a mole in the house ended up randomly being selected to be a double agent for this task. The housemates failed to realise this, so passed the task. Derek, whom they thought was the Double Agent, was sent into hiding overnight. Nominations were slightly altered this week; instead of housemates nominating who they wanted to put up for eviction they were nominating for those they wanted to save from the vote. Kemal and Orlaith gained just one vote each and so faced the public vote. Kemal received 51.1% of the public vote and so became the ninth evictee.
Week 10
The next morning, on Day 65, Orlaith carried out her promise to leave the house voluntarily if not evicted by the public. She became the third contestant in UK Big Brother series to leave of their own accord. Less than a day after her departure, it was announced that a new housemate would be sent in to replace her. On Day 66, Kinga entered the house as Orlaith's replacement. As she was sent in, she was told that if she got at least one person to not nominate her this week, she will be immune from eviction and definitely be in the house for the final week and will be eligible to win. She managed to pass the task easily, receiving no nominations at all. The housemates up for eviction were Derek and Eugene, meaning Anthony, Craig, Kinga and Makosi were in the final week.
On Day 71, Derek was evicted with 58% of the vote, becoming the 11th person to leave the house, and leaving Eugene in the final week as well. He was the last housemate to be voted out on nomination results.
Week 11
On Day 76, during dinner, Craig was evicted in a surprise mid-week eviction, for being the housemate to have received the least votes (only 4.1%) from the public to win Big Brother on Wednesday evening.
About one hour after Craig was evicted, Big Brother called a housemate to the Diary Room and Eugene was first to respond. He sat down behind a suitcase containing £50,000 in cash - half the actual winner's prize money. Big Brother told him he had the option of winning this half of the prize, leaving the other half for the winner. Big Brother told the remaining housemates that if he turned down the money, the prize money would double to £200,000. Eugene was given one minute to make to his decision while he was watched on screen by the rest of the housemates. After about 50 seconds, Eugene had made his decision and chose to take the £50,000. He later felt very guilty but his housemates assured him that he had done the right thing, and they would have done it also.
On Day 78, the final, Kinga received the least number of public votes (3.8% of the four-way total) and came in 4th place. The audience gave her a mixed reception. Makosi came third with 8.7% of the three-way vote. Her interview with Davina was poorly received, with the audience booing and shouting "liar" almost all the way through. As the interview neared its end, chants of "off, off, off," were yelled by the crowd. Eugene was next to leave, coming second with 42.7% of the final two-way vote. Upon leaving the house, Eugene's reception was extremely positive. With 57.3% of the two-way vote, Anthony was the winner of Big Brother 2005. He left the house elated at his own success - gyrating on the platform to the press.
The final drew a peak audience of 7.8 million viewers. The average audience for the final however was the lowest of all 6 Big Brother UK series.
The Secret Garden
The Secret Garden was first used on Day 29, when Big Brother contestants Kinga Karolczak, Orlaith McAllister and Eugene Sully secretly entered the house, minutes after Roberto Conte was evicted. For several days, the three housemates had to live in the Secret Garden, with only Makosi knowing their existence.
The Secret Garden was decorated like a jungle, and the three secret housemates were initially only supplied with fig leaves to cover only the main essentials of their bodies. This created the idea of an Adam and Eve style jungle. With Makosi's help, they had to steal clothes and food from the main Big Brother House when the other housemates were asleep, and to make sure that the other housemates did not find out about them.
The secret housemates were forced to live in the garden for several days. At the end of their stay, Makosi had to choose two of the three secret housemates to enter the main house. She chose Orlaith and Eugene, although Kinga re-entered the house after Orlaith walked out on Day 65.
