Crash Boom Bang! (クラッシュ・バンディクー フェスティバル, Crash Bandicoot Festival) is the second party game (after Crash Bash) in the Crash Bandicoot series, set for release in the United States on October 10, 2006 for Nintendo DS. It is to be developed by Dimps. 40 minigames are available, and 4 characters can play on a board at the same time.

Gameplay

Contrary to the previous game in the Crash Bandicoot party games, Crash Boom Bang! takes on a Mario Party-esque board game style, complete with a dice mechanism and 40 different minigames, many of which use a new DS Motion Panel Communicator, used to communicate with or distract (depending on the situation) other players through "Motion Panel Messaging."

Modes

Adventure Mode

This is where the main story takes place, and where you unlock most of the content in the game.

Festival Mode

A free-play mode where you choose a minigame and play against CPU or human opponents.

My Room

A mode that reveals the character's bedroom (much like Mario Party 4), in which won prizes are kept.

Confirmed minigames

  • Crash Shuffle - Pick the correct card out of the cards that are lined up in front of you. The dealer will gradually shuffle the cards more quickly. The player who picks up the correct card wins.
  • Crash Goal! - Kick the ball into the goal past the goalkeeper. Pay attention to the goalkeeper's movements. Aim well and touch where in the goal you want the ball to go.
  • Crash Shooting - You are surrounded by Wumpa Fruit. Shoot down the other players. Touch the wings of the plane to tilt it and change direction, and touch the body of the plane to fire.

Plot Synopsis

Template:Spoiler Multi-billionaire Viscount Devil has just recently discovered a map to an ancient lost city, which is home to a "Super Big Power Crystal" that can grant its user one wish. Viscount is unable to find the city himself, so he decides to gather up the brightest and strongest people in the world and have them solve the mystery for him. The contestants (Crash, Coco, Crunch, Doctor Cortex, Fake Crash, Pura, Pinstripe, and Tawna) each receive an invitation to the "World Cannonball Race", in which the winner earns a whopping one-hundred million dollars.

And so Crash and his friends embark on the worldwide race in a quest for its multi-million dollar prize. With hidden intentions of finding the ancient lost city and the famed magical Super Big Power Crystal, Viscount Devil plans on using the contestants to solve the mystery. The map of the race checkpoints is based on Viscount's ancient map, and Cortex has figured out Viscount's master plan and in his own relentless pursuit for world domination, sets out to steal the map and retrieve the legendary Crystal. It's up to Crash and his friends to win the big race and save the world.

Features

Current information has stated that the game will include the following features:

  • A Mario Party-esque board game style, complete with a dice mechanism and 40 different minigames, many of which use a new DS Motion Panel Communicator, used to communicate with or distract (depending on the situation) other players through "Motion Panel Messaging."
  • LAN capability.
  • 3D graphics, use of the touch screen, microphone, and wireless network.
  • A "betting feature", in which players bet on the outcome of a game, used to earn points, which are used to purchase new items. Up to 45 collectible and tradable items are known to exist in the game.

Trivia

  • This is the first Crash Bandicoot game to be released in Japan before seeing release in the United States. This is probably to be expected, as the game was developed by the Japan-based videogame company Dimps.
  • The games shown in previews include the following: Baseball, Whak-a-Mole (in which the Lab Assistants are the moles), target shooting, and a game involving a yo-yo. Other games involve being inside the Atlasphere from Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex, like racing, pool, and a "Polar Push"-esque game.
  • This is Tawna's first actual appearance since the first Crash game, in which it is said that she dumped Crash for Pinstripe Potoroo. Seeing as Pinstripe is also in the game, it's probably safe to assume that they are still dating.
  • This marks the first time Pura stands on two legs and wears blue jeans in any Crash Bandicoot game.
  • The Japanese version of the game comes with a DS Lite stylus with Crash on the top.
  • Tawna's sihouette has been severly toned down, looking like Coco.
  • All of the minigames have the word "Crash" in their title.
