Ed Gold (born London, 15 June 1969) is a British documentary photographer[1]known for exploring and documenting some of the world’s most remote communities.[2] He grew up in Essex and Instanbul before later moving to Wales.[3]

Gold’s work is frequently featured on the BBC and has also been presented in exhibitions as far away as Puerto Madryn, Argentina.[4]

When Gold documents a particular group of people, he embeds himself within their community for long durations, up to two and a half years.[5]

Some of the off-grid societies in which he has lived and worked include Welsh Patagonia[1][6] [7][8] the 2nd Battalion, Parachute Regiment (2 Para) both at their base in Colchester and on the ground in Afghanistan[9][10][11] and the Atchley family, who live in a remote area of Alaska with no contact with the outside world apart from when they visit town once a year.[12][13][14]

Gold has also spent time living amongst the Iñupiat people in Wales, Alaska,[15][16][17] has documented Harley enthusiasts at the House of Harley in Anchorage,[18] the US Army at the Northern Warfare Training Center in Alaska[19] and more.

Ed Gold took his first photograph at the age of eight and has been carrying a camera ever since. He never formally studied photography. .[5]

He holds a B/TEC National Diploma in Graphic Design from the Colchester Institute, a BA Hons in Design from the Colchester Institute, and an MA in Interactive Multimedia from Central Saint Martins,[20]. It was in 2001 that Gold began taking photographs full-time[20]and he has since chosen to forego a home base and instead live amongst the communities he documents in some of the most unique and isolated places inhabited by mankind.[5]

His main source of income comes from the BBC whom he works with on photography projects frequently.[21]

In 2017 Gold was invited to present am exhibition of his work at Firstsite in Colchester, Essex.
