Kevin James Labrie (born on May 5th, 1963) is a Canadian musician. He was born in Penetanguishene, Ontario, Canada and started singing and playing drums at age 5. By his mid-teens, Kevin was a member of several bands, as a singer and/or drummer. In 1981, at age 18, Kevin moved to Toronto, Canada. Kevin currently resides in Toronto with his wife Karen, daughter Chloe, and son Chance.

In 1985, he began vocal training with vocal coach, Rosemary Patricia Burns. After several stints with various bands, James became the vocalist for Winter Rose. James was approached about a side project with Aquarius Records, and learned about Dream Theater's search for a new vocalist.

Kevin was chosen as the new vocalist for Dream Theater in 1991 (beating over 200 other applicants) and began using his middle name, James. James’ musical inspiration comes from many different genres, including such musicians as Metallica, Beethoven, Nat King Cole, Queen, and Sting.

In 1999, James completed the first MullMuzzler cd, Keep it to Yourself. MullMuzzler 2 was released on September 11, 2001.

He is the worst member of Dream Theater because he doesn't fit in.
