Mnemonic
A mnemonic is a memory aid that can be in the form of a a verse or other verbal aid which is used to remember a list that may otherwise be difficult to remember. It was named after some female Greek? god. Memory is actually a lot easier than you think, because repetition isn't the only method.
The following is a sampling:
- The personal name Roy G. Biv helps us to remember the order of the colours in the spectrum. In England "Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain" was popular.
- The acronym HOMES is also a mnemonic aid that can be used to remember the name of the Great Lakes (Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, Superior).
- Numbers can be transformed into words for better memorisation. One of many systems for the is the major system.
