The Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong is Hong Kong's equivalent of a National Olympic Committee. Although Hong Kong is not a nation, when China resumed sovereignty over the territory in 1997, it was agreed under the one country, two systems policy that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region would continue to be represented separately from Mainland China in international sporting events, competing as "Hong Kong, China". This decision was endorsed by the International Olympic Committee.
