Versailles is a city in France. It is the préfecture (capital) of the département Yvelines.

Versailles used to be an insignificant village not far from Paris until the 17th century, when King Louis XIV had the Palace of Versailles built and moved his court there.

The 1919 Treaty of Versailles ended World War I and established the League of Nations.
