Irinjalakuda is a small town in Trichur district in Kerala state of India. In many ways it represents the small towns that dot the whole of Kerala. This town is famous for Koodalmanikyam Temple that has Bharatha as the main deity. It is also the home town of the Dr. V. Vijayakumar, author of Traditional Future (Published by Oxford Press), Malayalam film comedians Innocent and Edavela Babu.

This is a home town of the well known companies like K.P.L. oill mills, K.L.F. oil mills klfoil, Delicious cashew nuts, K.S cattle feeds, Chandrika Ayurvedic soaps, Champion pyrotechnics, C.K.K. Metals, Pappai ice creams, etc.

Irinjalakuda is also known for cultural and social institutions such as Unnayi Warrier Kalanilayayam and Yajurveda Patashala.

Unnayi Warrier is a renowned writer who lived in Kerala about three hundred years ago. He was born in Irinjalakuda in Trichur district in Kerala and gave immense contribution to the art of Kathakali the classical dance form of Kerala. His contributions include Nalacharitham and other stories from the Indian epics of Mahabharatha and Ramayana.

Irinjalakuda has two beautiful old churches and a good percentage of the population is Christian, mainly Roman Catholic.

Irinjalakuda is 20 km south of Thrissur and the Irinjalakuda town railway station is located 4 km away from the town centre at Kalletumkara, en route to Chalakudy. Chalakudy is 16 km east, and the temple town of Kodungalloor is 18 km south of Irinjalakuda, Edathirinji is 4 KM far from Irinjalakuda respectively.

Nearest railway station is the Irinjalakuda station (about 6 km away at Kallettumkara), although several trains stop only at Trissur.
