Fishing
In the popular RPG game Runescape, fishing is, as the name suggests, the art of catching fish. It goes hand in hand with cooking (RuneScape), as cooking fish is one of the easiest and popular ways of leveling the cooking skill. Fish are also popular foods and sell particularly well, as high level fish, such as shark or lobsters, heal well and do not require much preporation.
Fishing is a staple part of the Runescape economy, and an essential skill for those who don't have millions to burn.
Starting out
There are many places to fish in RuneScape, ranging from Port Sarim to the depths of Taverly dungeon. Paying Members have access to more fishing areas, such as the fishing guild, which requires 68 fishing to enter, or Catherby, which has the advantage of a range right next to the bank.
Certain fish can only be found in certain areas. Salmon can only be caught with a fly fishing rod (obtained at the shop in Port Sarim) while fishing in a river, while tuna can only be caught with a harpoon while fishing in the sea.
Randoms While Fishing
Randoms were made to deter cheaters, and since fishing is a common skill for macro's and other programs to take advantage of, there are plenty of randoms tied in with fishing.
River Troll: This is a monster that appears and attacks you. His level depends upon yours. Defeat him to earn some bait or river fish. It will vanish if you run from it.
Swarm: A swarm of insects will attack, like the troll, except you cannot attack it back. The only thing you can really do is run from it.
Big Fish: a fish will appear, steal your fishing instrument and spit it out a few metres away. The fishing spot will also vanish.
Whirlpool If you do not get away quickly enough, it will break your fishing instrument. The fishing spot will also vanish.
Evil bob's island: A rather rare random event, when you fish, a cat appears and teleports you to a small island. You have to escape from this island by asking the servants to help you, they will tell you that evil bob sleeps after he eats a certain fish. They will then show you where to fish it. Take a net and get it, you will realise the fish is already cooked, to have to put it in a special pot to get it raw again. After that, give it to evil Bob, you may have to do it several times. After he will fall asleep, escape quickly by the portal besides him. You will get some fishing xp when you are back.
