Gus Winkler (d. 1934) was a Chicago criminal and freelance gunman during Prohibition who had been associated with mobsters Al Capone and Fred "Killer" Burke as well as Depression-era criminals such as Ma Barker. Long wanted by authorities for murder and armed robbery, Winkler's body was discovered in a Chicago suburb in 1934. Although he had altered his fingerprints by changing a line on his fingers in order to decieve those in his FBI file (as opposed to the more common practice of using acid), Winker was easily identified.
