Dorapion (ドラピオン) is one of the Template:Pokenum fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. Dorapion is famous for being one of the Pokémon revealed before the Japanese release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, alongside Cherimu and Pachirisu. The purpose of Dorapion in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]
Dorapion appear to be more advanced scorpions, with two large claws, four short legs and stingers on the end of their tails. According to the press release, Dorapion's classification is noted as "Monster Scorpion Pokémon". Dorapion have purple exoskeletons and elongated bodies.[3]
Its Japanese name is a combanation of both ドラゴン doragon, the translation of dragon and the english word scorpion.
In the video games
Although not much is known about Dorapion, some information has been released about its attacks and abilities. It can either have an existing ability, Battle Armor, or a new ability, Sniper, which increases the base power of attacks during Critical hits. As a Poison/Dark hybrid, Dorapion benifits from total immunity to Psychic attacks, which would typically cause a Poison type serious problems. Dorapion can also learn the existing attack, Poison Fang, and a new attack, Cross Poison, which has an increased chance of Poisoning the opponent, or performing a Critical hit.[4] Dorapion can also learn the new moves Poison Barb, Fire Fang, Ice Fang, and Thunder Fang. These last three attacks each have a chance to flinch as well as a chance to burn, freeze and paralyze, respectively. Poison Barb lays down poisonous spikes on the opponents' field, poisoning Pokémon that switch in. A Dorapion is used by the first member of the elite four in Diamond and Pearl at level 57.
