Plot

Template:Spoiler The series is set in modern day Malibu, California. The show centers on Miley Stewart's (Miley Cyrus) life as a student at an average middle school, when she is not working as famous pop star Hannah Montana. However, the only people who know her secret are her father, her brother, her grandmother, her two best friends, her bodyguard, and a revolving guest cast of costumers, security guards, and the like. She lives in a house by the beach with her father Robby Ray (Billy Ray Cyrus) and 16-year-old brother Jackson (Jason Earles). The Stewarts are Tennessee transplants. Jackson and Miley's mother died when they were younger, leaving singer-songwriter Robby Ray a widower and the sole caretaker of their children, giving up his previous career as a famous country singer. He is also the disguised manager of Hannah Montana. Miley's two best friends Lilly Truscott (Emily Osment) and Oliver Oken (Mitchel Musso) also live nearby and attend school with her. Each episode deals with adolescent life issues, personal conflicts, or problems that are easily solved, with lessons learned by the show's end. Seasonal events in the series correlate with the actual seasonal events of the original airdate. Template:Endspoiler

Production

The series' working title was The Idol Life, but was later changed to Hannah Montana. Other names considered for the title were The Secret Life of Zoe Stewart, and The Popstar Life!. Former American Juniors finalist Jordan McCoy, actress Alyson Stoner, were considered for the role of Zoe Stewart.[citation needed] The leading role was originally going to be a girl called Zoe Stewart, however when Miley Cyrus was given the part, the name was changed to Miley Stewart.
