Zhang Nan (Simplified Chinese:张楠) is a Chinese Gymnast. She was born on April 30, 1986 in Guizhou, China.
Zhang Nan won four gold medals at the 2002 East Asian Games (Uneven Bars, Team, Floor, All Around) and the 2003 Asian Championship (Balance Beam, Floor, All Around, Team). She became China's first World All Around medalist by winning the bronze medal at the 2003 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
Zhang Nan was named to the Chinese Team to compete at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. SHe placed 7th with her team and won a Bronze Medal in the All Around Final with a score of 38.049, narrowly edging out Russian Anna Pavlova who finished with a score of 38.024. Zhang Nan also partcipated in the Balance Beam final, placing 6th with a score of 9.237.
Zhang Nan won the 2005 Chinese All Around National Title as well as the 2005 East Asian Ganes title. Late that year, she travelled to Melbourne, Australia to complete at the 2005_World_Artistic_Gymnastics_Championships. Unfortunatly, injurie's prevented Zhang from competiting in the All Around final and she was forced to withdraw. However, she did compete in the Balance Beam final, narrowly missing a medal after placing fourth with a score of 9.487.
As a member of China's 2006 World Championship's team, she competed all four events and helped her team to a second place finish in preliminaries despite some errors in the preliminary competition. The Chinese Team performed more consistantly in the Team Final, finishing with the Gold Medal. Zhang Nan was instrumental in this success, contributing routines on Vault (score 14.525), Beam (score 15.950) and Floor Exercise (14.800).
She was also the highest qualifier to the Balance Beam final. Unfortunately, she fell down some stairs the day before competition but the injury did not prevent her from competing and finishing in the 5th place.
