Wikipedia:WikiProject Music/Wikipedia OmniMusica

Wikipedia OmniMusica is a project to assemble the world's most complete music encyclopedia. We should aim for a multi-volume set as an ultimate goal. Intermediate goals could be the creation of installments (e.g. OmniMusica: Heavy Metal).

We need to identify the articles which must be a part of this set, and set minimum standards for referencing, etc. We should identify a percentage of entries which must be up to featured status. We should tag articles in the list to tell which ones would go in which installment of the OmniMusica. We may also want to think about putting lists, timelines and other stuff in an appendix.

Possible Goals

Total size: 10,000 articles

50%, or 5,000 articles, on musicians and other people
20%, or 2,000 articles, on genres, periods and "music of" articles
20%, or 2,000 articles, on albums, songs, symphonies and other compositions
5%, or 500 articles, on musical instruments
5%, or 500 articles, on musical terminology and miscellaneous

Featured: 500 articles, distributed approximately as above

Articles listed below are in bold if they are already featured and are in italics if they are such an essential topic that they must be featured. Approximately 1% of articles, or 100 articles, should be in italics.
