"The Avengers" will be the 77th episode of the FOX television series, The O.C. when aired on November 2, 2006.
Plot synopsis
Season four picks up 5 months after Marissa's shocking death. Ryan is washing blood off his hands and his face is cut and bruised. The phone rings and Ryan answers it, just as Sandy Cohen arrives at a dirty, downtown pub looking for Ryan, who is jumping out his window.
Julie Cooper is also headed somewhere. After taking a few pills and asking why Kaitlin isn't at school on a Saturday, she goes and meets Ryan at a dodgy hotel room.
36 hours earlier and Seth is in his bedroom, filling Summer in on what's been happening lately. Ryan's made some changes with his life and Seth is spending some quality with his parents and Dr. Roberts. Looks like Seth has a got a bit lonely with everyone gone. Kaitlin's been hanging out with Luke's twin brothers and Taylor seems to be having fun in Paris.
Cut to Summer in her room at Brown, listening to Seth on her voicemail. Turns out she didn't feel like picking up because she's busy rallying against cruelty against chickens.
Kirsten visits Seth at the comic book store he's working at with a care package and dinner invitation for Ryan. Seth points out that Ryan's changed and that if he didn't go to Marissa's funeral, he's probably not going to come to dinner at the Cohen's. But he'll try anyway.
It also looks like Julie's changed, taking on home maintenance, renovations and just about everything else. Except talking to her husband about what's going on. This is ju Meanwhile, Summer's protesting is interrupted by a call from Taylor who appears to be loving France. Only problem is, she's lying. She's at the diner in the OC.
That night, the Cohens are getting excited about Ryan coming round for tea. Unfortunately, Ryan's opted for getting his ass-kicked in a cage wrestling match.
Kaitlin is hanging out at the pier and happens to see Dr. Roberts hanging out with his ex-wife. As only Kaitlin would, she siezes the oppurtunity to make a personal gain and blackmails Dr. Roberts for some new leather boots.
Seth heads out to see where Ryan's at, just in time to see his KO'd. He returns home and gives some cryptic clues to his parents about how their adopted son's going.
After some more messages from Seth, Summer realises that her friends back home haven't moved on like she has and that it's time to head back. Time for a plan to bring Ryan back from the dark side.
Kirsten goes to visit Julie who blows her off after a mysterious phone call. Then she rings up Ryan who she meets up with at the dodgy hotel. Turns out she has some information - Volchok's whereabouts. Ryan declines but Julie knows he'll change his mind - despite missing her funeral and never visiting her grave, he still cares.
Ryan returns home and throws out all his photos of Marissa before Summer shows up and drags him out to the comic book store where Seth's got a little surprise for him - a comic about how much their lives have improved since he arrived.
Summer finally goes back home only to realise she's not that over Marissa. She can't stay in Newport.
Turns out the comic was just what Ryan needed to realise his home was at the Cohen's. And that he still cares. He might just take that information on Volchok after all.
