ABC DJ is a Singaporean sitcom on MediaCorp TV Channel 5. The series is about Dong Jin aka "DJ" (Eugene Lee), an American-born Chinese who is being sent or "banished" to Singapore by his father, Master Zhang, who is a rich, spoilt and almost-worthless Americanized Chinese, to live with a conservative Chinese family, that is, the Gohs, who lived in a Toa Payoh HDB flat and also behaved traditionally Chinese, so that to get him (DJ) to stay for two whole years to make DJ learn from the Gohs about the traditional Chinese culture and influences Chinese culture. Goh (Richard Loh), who is a "sinseh" pupil to Master Zhang, lives together with his wife, Hwee (Margaret Lim), his two children, Fann (Ezann Lee) and Jeng Lo (Mao Hui), and his old and grumpy father, Ah Kong (Marcus Chin).

However, DJ thought that the purpose of arriving in Singapore is for a holiday vacation but unfortunately, he was tricked by his father when DJ received a call from his father, explaining to him that DJ must stay in Singapore for the two whole years with the Gohs in order to influence and learn about the traditional Chinese culture but DJ does not want to make himself get used to the traditional Chinese culture. Instead, during his period of stay in Singapore with the Gohs, DJ tends to do things whatever he wants to do and did not follow Goh's instructions and order.

Trivia

  • In the second last episode, the episode's title clearly references Nirvana's famous single "Smells Like Teen Spirit" directly. DJ's band name in this episode is called China White, a reference to Taiwanese rocker's Wu Bai's band, China Blue.
  • Ah Kong, which is the oldest character of the show, is actually played by a young man, Marcus Chin.
