  The 4th Earl of John Murray Dunmore was born in the year 1730, and died on Febraurary 25, 1809. They called him Lord Dunmore. He was Virginia's last British governor. (1771-1775) Lord Dunmore's war won against the Shawnee to open the Ohio Valley. (1774) He was constantly fighting with the colonial assembly. He had to hide on a British warship when the American Revolution broke out in 1775. When he couldn't get control of Virginia, he went back to England in July 1776. In 1787-1796 he was govenor of the Bahamas.
