Ellis Eugene "Gene" Vance (born 25 February 1923) is a former professional basketball player for the Chicago Stags and a former collegiate athlete for the Illinois Fighting Illini basketball team. He is most famous for leading Illinois as a member of the famed "Whiz Kids" of the 1940's. He was drafted into the NBA in 1948, and played for the Chicago Stags (now the Chicago Bulls), the Milwaukee Hawks (now the Atlanta Hawks), and the St. Louis Hawks (also now the Atlanta Hawks).

Married Grace Hobarg in 1948; married to her from 1948 until her death from stomach cancer in 1980; now married to Janann Duffy; has four children: Jon, Jim, Sue, and Marty.
