Tenpō Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi (天保異聞 妖奇士) is an anime series created by BONES.
Written by Shou Aikawa, noted for his previous work on Fullmetal Alchemist, with character designs by Toshihiro Kawamoto, noted for his previous work with BONES on Wolf's Rain and Cowboy Bebop, and directed by Hiroshi Nishikiori, the series premiered across Japan on 6:00 PM, October 7, 2006 at TBS, in the same time slot previously occupied by anime series such as Blood+, Fullmetal Alchemist and both series of the Gundam Seed franchise. It is set to recieve its satellite television premiere across Japan on Animax from November 14, 2006.
Story
Template:Spoiler In 1844, the 14th year of the Tenpō Era, 10 years before the arrival of Commodore Matthew Perry and the Black Ships, Edo is under attack by beasts from the underworld, known as Yōi (妖夷). Members of the Bansha Aratamesho, called the Ayashi (奇士), are assembled to fight against the beasts.

Ayashi
- Ryūdō Yukiatsu (竜導往壓) (Seiyū: Keiji Fujiwara)
- The protagonist, a 39-year-old drifter with the power of Ayagami. He goes by the name of "Yuki". Originally a son of a Hatamoto Samurai, he left home 25 years ago.
- Ogasawara Hōzaburō (小笠原放三郎) (Seiyū: Tokuyoshi Kawashima)
- The 20-year-old leader of the Bansha Aratamesho. He is also a scholar in Rangaku (蘭学, lit. Western studies).
- Edo Genbatsu (江戸元閥) (Seiyū: Shin'ichirō Miki)
- A cross-dressing Shinto priest.
- Saizō (宰蔵) (Seiyū: Michi Nino)
- A young girl raised as a boy in order to inherit the family fortune. She fights using a paper fan which unfolds to become a long rope of paper.
- Abi (アビ) (Seiyū: Rikiya Koyama)
- A mountain folk, specializes in bare-hand combat.
