Graceland Cemetery
Graceland Cemetery is a large Victorian-era cemetery on Chicago's North Side. Its main entrance is at Clark and Irving Park, the Sheridan street Red Line stop is the nearest L station.
Established in 1860, numerous famous Chicagoans are interred at Graceland. Businessmen buried at Graceland include William Kimball, Potter Palmer, Henry Honore, Marshall Field, Cyrus McCormick and many of his descendents, George Pullman, Philip Danforth Armour, and members of the Deering family, and Judge Gary of US Steel.
Architects buried at Graceland include Howard van Doren Shaw, Louis Sullivan, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Fazlur Khan, Daniel Burnham,
Politicians buried at Graceland include John Peter Altgeld, Frederick Wacker, Governor Frank Lowden, mayor Joseph Medill, and mayors Carter Harrison, Sr. and Carter Harrison, Jr..
In addition to the resting places of many famous Chicagoans, many Graceland tombs are of great architectural or artistic interest. These include the mausoleums of Henry Harrison Getty and the Ryerson family.
