According to my calculations Mexico is not necessarily qualified.

If the last 2 matches in Group G result in:

  • Mexico - Italy: 0-1
  • Ecuador - Croatia: 0-2

Italy, Ecuador and Mexico all have 6 points. If this happens what counts is the goal difference:

  • Italy: +2
  • Croatia: +2
  • Mexico: +1

In this case, Italy and Croatia qualify and Mexico goes home.

The statement that 6 points qualify a team is not entirely true. The 2 teams with the most points qualify. If more than 2 teams have the same points the goal difference counts. If this is still the same the goals made by the teams are counted. Still the same: the match results of the teams are taken into consideration. And if this is still the same the teams that go through are assigned by lot.

More calculations:

Group A: France needs to beat Denmark by more than 1 goal to qualify.

Argentina needs to beat Sweden to qualify
