Countries most directly affected by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake

The humanitarian response to the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake has been immediate and worldwide. The following is a partial list of charitable organizations that are accepting public donations, organized according to the countries in which they are based.

The American Institute of Philanthropy maintains a list of organizations working on the disaster that it believes are reliable and worthy. Charity Navigator evaluates the financial health of over 3,400 of the largest charities in the United States so that people interested in donating to those charities can be assured that their money is being spent wisely and efficiently. Similar organizations exist for most countries of the world.

Certain charities in some countries have standing arrangements with corporations or governments whereby those institutions match the public's donations, either wholly or partially. Donating to such charitable organizations leads to an increase in the overall relief funds raised.
