Buckinghamshire is a county of south central England. Area: 1883 sq km (727 sq miles). County town: Aylesbury. Population: 590,000. Agricultural county covering part of Chiltern Hills to South and Vale of Aylesbury to north. Fertile agricultural land, with many landed estates, especially of Rothschild family in 19th century. Agricultural, furniture, pharmaceuticals, service and distribution industries. Residential commuter area for London in south. New town of Milton Keynes in north. Main towns include Aylesbury, High Wycombe, Amersham, Princes Risborough, Chesham, Buckingham and Milton Keynes which includes Bletchley.
