Exposure range

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Girolamo Savonarola (talk | contribs) at 09:29, 6 December 2006 (moved Stops (Dynamic Range) to Exposure range: this article is about exposure range - F-number is about stops proper). Stops are a measurement of the dynamic range of a medium or device.

A stop is equivalent to where c is the medium or device's contrast ratio. For example, average DV has a contrast ratio of 45:1, so its dynamic range is roughly 5.5 stops. Film has a dynamic range of 11 stops, currently the highest in motion picture mediums.
