Floyd Laughren
Floyd Laughren (born October 3, 1935 in Shawville, Quebec) was a Canadian politician, who represented the Sudbury, Ontario riding of Nickel Belt in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1971 to 1998. He was a member of the Ontario New Democratic Party.
Before entering elected politics, Laughren taught Economics at Cambrian College in Sudbury.
He served as the Minister of Finance and Deputy Premier in Bob Rae's government from 1990 to 1995. During this time, Laughren was nicknamed "Pink Floyd" by the conservative media.
He retired in 1998, accepting an appointment to chair the Ontario Energy Board. He was replaced by Blain Morin in a 1998 byelection. When the ridings of Nickel Belt and Sudbury East were merged for the Ontario general election, 1999, Sudbury East incumbent Shelley Martel won the NDP nomination in the expanded Nickel Belt riding, and won the election.
