Template:Infobox Digimon Agumon is a fictional character from the Digimon media franchise, which comprises anime, manga, toys, video games, trading card games, and other media. Agumon is a Reptile Digimon and is a sort of mascot for the Digimon universe, as it and its Digivolutionary forms are featured in almost all Digimon media and in the majority of Digimon merchandise. The name Agumon is partly derived from the Japanese word Aguagu, which is the sound of biting in Japanese, and from the suffix -mon (short for "monster") which all Digimon carry at the end of their names. Thus, Agumon is literally a "biting monster."

As Agumon is a de facto mascot for the Digimon franchise, it is often used as the partner of the lead DigiDestined, a child chosen by benevolent beings (usually one or more Mega level Digimon) to save the Digital World, the plane on which all Digimon live. (DigiDestined often have to save planet Earth from some enemy force as well.)

A list of humans Agumon is partner to in anime includes Taichi Kamiya ("Tai" for short) in Digimon Adventure and Masaru Daimon in Digimon Savers; in manga Agumon is the partner of Tsurugi Tatsuno in Digimon Next; in a Chinese manhua, D-Cyber, it is partnered with Teru Raku.

Description

Agumon is a short and stout dinosaur-like Digimon standing about 2½ feet tall. Its skin is a bright orange and its eyes, which are large and disc-shaped, are light green. Its forearms are noticeably larger than its upper arms because they are comprised entirely of broad, three-clawed hands.[1] Agumon's large feet sport three claws as well. Of all the Digimon Adventure Rookies, Agumon is the only one to be drawn with distinct pectoral muscles. Its tail is fat and stubby, and its head and muzzle are almost as large as the rest of its body. A small earhole is visible on each side of its head.

Agumon's Virus form, BlackAgumon, has smoky black skin and a more "ferocious personality"[2] than the normal Agumon. In Digimon Battle Spirit there is an Extra Agumon, which is simply a term for the unlockable Agumon that has Omnimon as a Digivolution. Agumon and BlackAgumon's alternate color schemes in this game include reddish-pink, blue, and green.

File:Agumonx.jpg

The Agumon featured in Digimon Savers has a slightly different design, with more teeth, longer claws, wider forearms and red training bracers. Its nostrils are very different from Adventure's Agumon; where that Agumon had well-defined nostrils, this one has two oval-shaped holes on the front of its muzzle. It is much larger than the Adventure Agumon, almost as tall as a human adolescent. The Agumon in Digimon Next sports the training bracers but otherwise keeps the Adventure design. The Agumon in the Digimon Adventure Movie was quite large, equal in size to a soda machine, however, its general appearance was the same.

Agumon X is the name for Agumon modified by the X-Antibody. It is larger in size and has longer claws than other Agumon. Also, it has blue stripes running down its body (Similar to Greymon's). Agumon X's standard attack changes from Pepper Breath (Baby Flame) to Baby Burner.

There is another variation of Agumon in Digimon World DS called DotAgumon. DotAgumon is essentially a pixilated version of Agumon, resembling what would be seen on the LCD screen of a Digimon virtual pet. Its only use in the game is to be an easy way to obtain Koromon. Koromon can then Digivolve into more powerful forms (e.g., the regular Agumon).

Another variation of Agumon is Prof. Agu (Agu-hakase). This variation of Agumon seems to be somewhat of a joke character, and has appeared in promotional materials, mainly in the V-Jump magazine. However, Prof. Agu was immortalized in the Digivice iC Ver. 2, where he was available as a "Super Ultimate" (essentially, a secret) digivolution.

Yet another variation is BushiAgumon, an Agumon dressed in the attire of a samurai. His only appearance has been on the Digi-Window.

Digivolution

Agumon's Digivolution line in Digimon Adventure/Adventure 02:

Agumon's Adventure Digivolutions show how the mental state of a DigiDestined can affect the way his/her partner Digimon evolves. Tai once attempted to force Greymon to evolve to its Ultimate level through his will alone. However, because Tai was exhibiting feelings of fear and helplessness at that moment (instead of his DigiDestined trait, Courage), Greymon Digivolved into SkullGreymon,[3] an evil counterpart of MetalGreymon, Greymon's true Ultimate.

In the second half of Digimon Adventure and parts of Adventure 02, Agumon has the ability to Warp Digivolve. This means that it is able to Digivolve directly from the Rookie to the Mega level. In other words, through Warp Digivolution Agumon can become WarGreymon directly without having to Digivolve to Greymon and MetalGreymon first.

Agumon's Digivolution line in Digimon Savers:

Agumon's Digivolution line in the D-Cyber manhua:

  • Fresh (Baby I) - Botamon
  • In-Training (Baby II) - Koromon
  • Rookie (Child) - Agumon X
  • Champion (Adult) - Greymon X / Omekamon
  • Ultimate (Perfect) - MetalGreymon X
  • Mega (Ultimate) - N/A
Note:Agumon's Mega form in D-Cyber are unknown.

In the Digimon Card Game Agumon has a wide range of Digivolutions. He can Digivolve from any of the following: Budmon, Frimon, Gigimon, Koromon and Nyaromon. He can also Digivolve into the following: Angemon, Birdramon, Boarmon, Flarerizamon, Garurumon, Greymon, Growmon, IceDevimon, Kyuubimon, Leomon, Maildramon, Meramon, Numemon, Sepikmon, Stingmon, Togemon, Tyranomon, Veedramon Zero and ExVeemon. Agumon X can Digivolve from Dorimon, Koromon, Nyaromon and can Digivolve into Greymon X.

Other Digivolutions

Agumon has appeared in a number of Digimon virtual pet games, including the original Digimon Battle Pets, Digimon Pendulum, Digimon Pendulum Progress, Digimon Pendulum X, Digimon Accel, and Digimon Mini.

Agumon has many different Digivolution options in each of these virtual pet games.

Attacks

  • Pepper Breath/Pepper Flame: (Baby Flame) Agumon shoots an orange fireball of varying strength from its mouth.
  • Baby Burner: This attack involves a more powerful stream of fire than Pepper Breath. In the Digimon Next manga, Agumon can only perform this attack with a power boost from Tsurugi's DigiSoul.[4]

Pepper Breath/Pepper Flame is Agumon's attack in (Digimon Adventure/Adventure 02). Baby Burner is the attack used by the Agumon in Digimon Savers.

Attacks unique to the Digimon Card Game or to Digimon video games:

  • Claw Attack: (Sharp Claws) Swipes at an opponent with its claws. (This is one of Agumon's secondary attacks from Digimon Battle Spirit.)
  • Cross Fire: Rapidly bites an enemy while charging. (This attack is listed on numerous Agumon trading cards.)
  • Concentration Reservoir: A generic attack shared by multiple fighters in Digimon Battle Spirit.
  • Dynamite Kick: A leap into the air followed by rapid kicks. (This attack is exclusive to Digimon Battle Spirit.)
  • Moon Tracer: A generic attack shared by multiple fighters in Digimon Battle Spirit.
  • Spitfire:

Digimon Adventure

Agumon and Tai are the main Digimon/DigiDestined team in Digimon Adventure, the first Digimon anime series. In this series, eight such teams were chosen by the Digimon Sovereigns to save both the Digital World and Earth from destruction by an evil Digimon named Apocalymon, who wished to inflict its personal torment onto all living things.[5] The DigiDestined learned important lessons about survival and themselves as they traveled to various areas of the Digital World to defeat whatever evil arose.

Being the partner of the DigiDestined's leader, Agumon was a decisive factor in many battles. Agumon was always the first of the partner Digimon to Digivolve to a new form, whether it was its Champion form (Greymon)[6] or its Ultimate (MetalGreymon).[7]

Agumon was one of only two partner Digimon to evolve to the Mega level (WarGreymon). (Yamato "Matt" Ishida's partner Gabumon evolved to MetalGarurumon.)[8]

In his Mega form Agumon was responsible for defeating two of the Dark Masters, MetalSeadramon[9] and Machinedramon.[10] Along with MetalGarurumon and MagnaAngemon, Patamon's Ultimate, he defeated Piedmon, the leader of the Dark Masters.[11]

When fighting the final enemy Apocalymon, Tai, as well as all the other DigiDestined children, realized that they had never needed their Crests[12] to allow their partner Digimon to evolve. The power had been within themselves all along.[13] Agumon, along with all the other chosen Digimon, where able to Digivolve without aid from the crests, and were able to destroy Apocalymon. They were also able to contain Apocalymon's kamikaze attack, which would have destroyed both the Digital World and Earth.[14]

Digimon Adventure (Movie)

The Digimon Advenute feature film was released in theaters on March 6, 1999, a day before the series' first episode aired.[15] It takes place four years prior to the events of the series. The Agumon present in this movie is not the same Agumon who is Tai's partner.

This Agumon entered the Real World through a computer in the Kamiya household as an egg. Tai and his younger sister Kari were playing in their bedroom when the Digi-Egg hatched into a Botamon. The Botomon soon Digivolved into Koromon, then Agumon, and later Greymon. The Greymon then battled and defeated a Parrotmon who had also mysteriously appeared in the Real World.

The fight took place at night, on a road between two large apartment blocks. Eight children from those apartment blocks came out onto their balconies to watch the fight - these are the eight who would later become the DigiDestined. Everyone else seemed to be completely oblivious to the fight (the damage caused by the battle was explained as an earthquake.)

Our War Game!

Our War Game! is the second Digimon Adventure movie, released on March 4, 2000.[16] In this movie, Agumon and Tai teamed up with Matt, Gabumon, Tentomon, and Patamon and entered the Internet to battle the evil Digimon Infermon, who had taken residence inside the Internet. All four Digimon were defeated when Infermon Digivolved to its mega form - Diaboromon.

Diaboromon proceeded to make an infinite number of clones of himself, take over the Internet and use the data it gave him access to to destroy the earth. Agumon and Gabumon warp digivolved to their Mega forms, but the Diaboromon overwhelmed them, and the e-mails that they were receiving slowed them down too much. However, by using the hope and strength in these encouragement e-mails, the two Megas were able to DNA Digivolve to [[[Omnimon]] and destroy all the clones, leaving only the original. However, Diaboromon was too fast to destroy, so Tentomon's partner Izzy Izumi devised the plan forwarding all the e-mails they had received to Diaborormon. This plan worked, and Omnimon, was able to kill the original Diaboromon.

Digimon Adventure Original Story

Digimon Adventure Original Story is a CD Drama released in Japan on April 23, 2003.[17] On Taichi's track, it is explained that Agumon was able to talk with him for a short while in November of 1999 after a temporary connection to the Digital World opened on Tai's computer.

Later, in May of 2001, Tai and Agumon were briefly reunited when Tai returned to the Digital World to give up his Crest power so the Digimon Sovereigns could be freed. This meant Agumon would no longer be able to Digivolve to his Ultimate or Mega forms

Digimon Adventure 02

In Digimon Adventure 02, the sequel series to Digimon Adventure, three new DigiDestined were chosen from the start, with one, Ken Ichijouji, joining the team after he gave up his evil Digimon Emperor persona.[18]

The series starts with Agumon sending a distress call to its partner Tai.[19] Tai entered the Digiworld[20] and found Agumon, who explained that a Digimon Emperor had been taking control Digimon. Agumon explained how it could no longer Digivolve because of the strange structures strewn throughout DigiWorld called Control Spires.

In the ninth episode of this season, Agumon was captured by the Digimon Emperor and forced to Dark Digivolve into SkullGreymon, and then into a virus version of MetalGreymon in the next episode. [21] Agumon was eventually freed by Tai, Matt, and the new DigiDestined.[22]

Agumon appeared again in Digimon Adventure 02 when he met a troubled BlackWarGreymon. The two had initially been on good terms[23] but ended up fighting when BlackWarGreymon entered the real world and attempted to kill Yukio Oikawa.[24] One of the Digimon Sovereigns, Azulongmon, gave Tai one of his DigiCores; the power from this DigiCore restored Agumon's ability to Warp Digivolve. Agumon's mega form, WarGreymon, together with Imperialdramon Fighter Mode, managed to finally defeat BlackWarGreymon. This is the last major battle that Agumon took part in.

Revenge of Diaboromon

Revenge of Diaboromon is the second Adventure 02 movie, and takes place three months after the end of the series. Diaboromon resurfaced on the Internet, forcing Tai and Matt, along with their Digimon partners, to travel into the Internet once more. Agumon and Gabumon Warp DNA Digivolved into Omnimon, and destroyed Diaboromon again. Diaboromon managed to escape destruction when it split apart into innumerable Kuramon. The Kuramon entered the Real World and fused to form the mega level Armageddemon, but was eventually defeated by Imperialdramon Paladin Mode.

Digimon Savers

Agumon in Digimon Savers.

This Agumon, different from the one who appears in the two Adventure series, is the partner of Masaru Daimon, the main character in Digimon Savers. This Agumon adores its partner Masaru, and considers itself to be Masaru's follower. It even refers to Masaru as its "aniki". "aniki" in Japanese literally means "big brother," but Agumon uses it in the same connotation as in the Japanese Yakuza, where it means "boss."

Agumon first Digivolves into GeoGreymon by receiving Masaru's DigiSoul during their first battle against Kokatorimon,[25] In the next episode, Agumon is discovered by Masaru's family. Surprisingly, it is quickly accepted into the family and gets given free reign of the Daimon household.[26]. This is unusual, because in every other Digimon series, the families of the DigiDestined were shocked when they found out about Digimon.

Agumon first attained its Ultimate form, RiseGreymon, during a fight against Garudamon who had digivolved from Aquilamon. During the fight, Masaru's sister Chika tried to calm Garudamon down. Enraged, Garudamon attacked Chika and Masaru, but the attack was blocked by GeoGreymon. Angry at himself for not being able to protect the ones he cared about, Masaru vowed to never let anything cause Chika sadness again. This caused his Digi-Soul to change, allowing GeoGreymon to digivolve to RiseGreymon.

Agumon later became ShineGreymon to fight Kouki, Ivan, and Nanami.

Digimon Next

Digimon Next is the most recent Digimon manga that has been serialized in V-Jump, a popular graphic novel and video game magazine. The Agumon in this manga was initially partnered with Tsurugi Tatsuno as Greymon. In a battle with Peckmon, a Piximon De-Digivolved Greymon to the Rookie level - Agumon. This Agumon later gains the ability to Digivolve into GeoGreymon.

D-Cyber

This manhua features an Agumon X who is the partner of Teru Raku. When Teru was controlled by MetalPhantomon, Agumon first appeared as a MetalGreymon X to save him. Later, Teru managed to get Agumon to Digivolve to Greymon X. After receiving power from the Holy Knights, Agumon gains Omekamon as a Champion Digivolution.

Cameos

  • In the Digimon Adventure V-Tamer 01 manga, Agumon were being trained by Leo the Leomon at LordHolyAngemon's castle on Taichi's[27] and Zeromaru's first visit.
  • In Digimon Frontier, some Agumon were at the Autumn Leaf Fair.[28][29]
  • In Digimon Savers, several Agumon were seen in a flashback to the massacre in the Digital World. These Agumon were of the same design as the Agumon in Digimon Adventure/02

Digimon Video Games

  • In Digimon World, Agumon is one of the many attainable evolutions and is also one of the two starter Digimon.
  • In Digimon World 2, Agumon is again attainable, and is also one of the potential 'starter' Digimon for the player, depending on which team the player joins.

  • In Digimon World DS, the Savers version of Agumon is one of the many Digimon able to be acquired. In addition, a DotAgumon can be obtained by inputting a special password into the game; once its data is received, it can be created at the DigiFarm. Agumon evolves from Koromon, and can evolve to Greymon or GeoGreymon depending on its stats.
  • In Digimon Racing Agumon is one of many that you can play as.
