University rowing in the United Kingdom
Appearance
University rowing in the United Kingdom began when it was introduced to Oxford in the late 1700s. The first University Boat Race (between Oxford and Cambridge) was held in 1829. Today, the majority of universities have a boat club. At college based universities (Oxford, Cambridge, and Durham) each college has its own club as well as a main university club.
BUSA League
Most universities compete in the British Universities Sports Association (BUSA) championships. Points can be gained by competing in a number of events over the year:
- British Indoor Rowing Championships - 2km indoor rowing
- Head of the Trent - 5km head race
- BUSA Regatta - 2km regatta
