Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms (五代十國 wu3 dai4 shi2 guo2) was a period of political upheaval between Tang Dynasty and Song Dynasty in which 5 short-lived would-be dynasties in the north and more than 10 independent sovereignties mainly in the south of Chang Jiang.
