Also called thumb knot.

An overhand knot is one of the fundamental knots we learn. It forms the basis of many knots.

Very secure, it tends to jam. This is the knot that any line, electrical cord, garden hose, rope or string will spontaneously evolve. Thank you Darwin.

It has a number of ways to tie:

Thumb method - create a loop and push the [working end]? through the loop with your thumb.

Overhand method - create a bight?, twist the hand over and pinch the working end with your fingers and pull through the loop.
