Untitled

The Colour and the Shape is the Foo Fighters' second album. It was released May 20, 1997 through Roswell/Capitol Records.

This album was the debut of the Foo Fighters as a band, as Dave Grohl had recorded all of the first Foo Fighters album by himself with the exception of one guitar part. After a grueling recording session at Bear Creek Studios in Woodinville, Washington, Grohl took guitarist Pat Smear and bassist Nate Mendel to Grandmaster Studios in Los Angeles, California, and rerecorded the album with Grohl himself on drums. Following this session, drummer William Goldsmith officially quit the band. The album reached No. 3 in the UK and No. 10 in the United States. As of June 2005, The Colour And The Shape remains Foo Fighters' biggest U.S. seller, with well over 2 million units sold.

Miscellanea

Even though the Foo Fighters are an American band, the word 'Colour' in the album title is always spelt with the British spelling. This was a nod to the producer of the album, Gil Norton, who is British.

Hey, Johnny Park! and My Poor Brain sound like one song if played continuously, as the intro of My Poor Brain star at 4:06 on Hey, Johnny Park!
