Value?[edit]

What is the value of this template. It seems like the function here is already served by Category:IEC standards. ~Kvng (talk) 14:02, 6 April 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Reply - @Kvng:, per User:Secondarywaltz at this link, "The whole purpose of a navbox is to be inserted in all the related articles to allow you to navigate between them. A list just does not allow you to come and go and jump between them. This is exactly what a navbox is for." --Jax 0677 (talk) 14:55, 6 April 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Jax 0677: are you sure your link is correct? I couldn't find any discussion about Template:List of International Electrotechnical Commission standards at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion. ~Kvng (talk) 17:56, 6 April 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Reply - @Kvng:, yes, I am sure, if you look carefully, you will see the quote. --Jax 0677 (talk) 19:16, 6 April 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Jax 0677: OK I see that. I was expecting something pertaining to this particular template. I am unfamiliar with what's an appropriate navbox topic and was hoping to learn. Is there some policy essay somewhere? ~Kvng (talk) 01:24, 7 April 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Summary: Although many navboxes (appear to) duplicate organizational functionality provided by categories, both are valid and they coexist. ~Kvng (talk) 19:25, 9 April 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
