One Italian done. I asked George to work on photos. There are links to other Italian women pacifists on my talk, if you are interested. If you have time, I'd appreciate your giving it a copy edit. Thanks. SusunW (talk) 23:49, 31 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Not an easy one to copy edit but I think it's probably OK now. I don't expect you to make any changes to the article, but as far as I can see, strictly speaking Detalmo Savorgnan di Brazza should have an accent: Detalmo Savorgnan di Brazzà. Maybe the accent was lost when the couple married in New York. I see several of your sources also maintain the accent in Cora Slocomb di Brazzà. Probably a redirect from the accented name is all that is needed.--Ipigott (talk) 10:49, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I was totally frustrated by that WP:Common name thing. Most English sources, and there are hundreds of newspaper articles call her Countess di Brazza, without an accent. I wasn't about to write her without a given name, so I used her publishing name without the accent. Initially I wrote her without one and him and the town with one, but then it seemed weird for them to vary. I also noted that his brother the explorer doesn't have an accent in English articles either. I will never understand why people translate names. It's annoying. I do appreciate your help on the article. Her life was so busy until it wasn't. Very tragic, all in all. SusunW (talk) 14:31, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Typists and print setters are probably to be blamed for the lack of accents in the names of American immigrants and those who have published in the United States. In the early days of Wikipedia there was also a tendency to forget accents but over the past few years, most foreign names have been correctly accented (at least the ones from countries using Latin-based alphabets). Maybe it would be useful to include a note on Brazza vs Brazzà. I've listed her under Brazza.--Ipigott (talk) 14:56, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it's really annoying. They publish what they publish and then I get stuck trying to figure out what to do. I appreciate your listing it under Brazza, I did a bunch of redirects, but forgot to look for the surname. SusunW (talk) 15:38, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • SusunW: I've been trying to find your links to Italian pacifists on your talk. They are probably in one of the archives but I don't know which one.--Ipigott (talk) 17:13, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Look under Lecher. I pinged you there. SusunW (talk) 17:26, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

As usual, I have photos, but am needing George's expertise. She's a threefer as PamD pointed out (Black women, peace, and "P" names.) This is the last one I had in the hopper, so if you could give it a copyedit, I'll start searching for my next subject. SusunW (talk) SusunW (talk) 15:35, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hope to be able to look through this one over the next couple of days.--Ipigott (talk) 15:56, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Not much to do on this one.--Ipigott (talk) 10:33, 2 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much. I appreciate you. SusunW (talk) 14:13, 2 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Sutchar on Mather High School (16:54, 1 February 2023)

I want to add a notable alumni --Sutchar (talk) 16:54, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, Sutchar, and welcome to Wikipedia. I've left a number of useful links in my welcome message on your talk page. I suggest you begin by using some of them to help you learn how to edit. Once you feel ready to draft a new article, I can take a look at what you're doing and try to help you along. Just one last word of advice: if you have connections with Mather or with the person you want to write about, it is probably not a good idea to make this your first article. You should pick someone with whom you have no associations. Please let me know if you need further assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 17:05, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Sutchar on Mather High School (18:03, 1 February 2023)

It seems, an edit should appear immediately. I am trying to edit/add a name to the notable alumni section for Mather High School (in Chicago). Can you help me? --Sutchar (talk) 18:03, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sutchar: The reason your edit was removed is that for a name to be included, there must first be a biography.--Ipigott (talk) 20:35, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Amandamarshall0219 (20:40, 2 February 2023)

Hi n how are u mentor --Amandamarshall0219 (talk) 20:40, 2 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, Amandamarshall0219, and welcome to Wikipedia. You will see I have left some useful links for you on your talk page. I hope you'll follow some of them up and learn how to edit. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 15:55, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Women in Red

Thank you. Here Paloma Chen to review. Editing in English is different from editing in Spanish, your advice will be welcome. Greetings. María Sacristán (talk) 00:05, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

María Sacristán: As you can see, I've looked carefully though the article and sorted out the translation problems. When you use Google translate from Spanish to English, you must first be careful to correct the pronouns. As in this case, translations of women's biographies often contain he and his instead of she and her. If you want to include the names of works, etc., you should first use the original Spanish and then provide an English translation if necessary. You may find other useful tips from my edits. To avoid copyright problems, when translating, in your first edit comment you should should clearly state you are translating, stating the original's name in Spanish. It is also useful to include the translation tag on the article's talk page, as I have done here. Please let me know if you need assistance with future articles. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 10:34, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Young Lecturer (02:20, 5 February 2023)

Hello, my mentor, I am excited to have you as a mentor. Hope you are doing well. I would like to learn from you with regards to templates edit. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards. --Young Lecturer (talk) 02:20, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, Young Lecturer, and thanks for all the useful work you have been doing on disambiguation. As for disamb in templates, it seems to me the solution would be to create a new template without the disamb and have the old one deleted but there might well be cases where the inclusion of a disamb term is intentional. It seems to me each cases should be examined with care. If you want more experienced assistance, I suggest you make a request on Wikipedia talk:Templates, if possible with examples. Hope this helps.--Ipigott (talk) 06:41, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi mentor, it really helped and I will surely do as suggested. I hope to continue learning from you on things that are not clear to me.
Thank you for your timely and useful reponse. Young Lecturer (talk) 06:57, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Arfatmia77 on Subterranean Toledo (15:43, 5 February 2023)

Arfat Mia Alam Faisal, a talented Bangladeshi music producer and music Artist. He also wrote songs and stories. Undoubtedly, he has stolen the hearts of thousands of people with his mysterious voice and confidence. He has set up a huge fan base Nationwide. His songs make the audience happy --Arfatmia77 (talk) 15:43, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, Arfatmia77, and welcome to Wikipedia. If you are Arfat Mia Alam Faisal, you shouldn't be using Wikipedia to promote yourself. If you want to edit Wikipedia, you should look into some of the links I have left on your talk page. Please let me know if you run into difficulties or need assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 15:51, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Draft page query Black Lives in Music

Hello again! Sorry to bother you. In attempting to do something on balance in the UK music industry, I appear to have created even more women in red. So I am not sure how helpful my draft page on 'Black Lives in Music' is for the WiR project! I know you are pestered a lot by all your mentees but if you had a moment,...no hurry at all, ...perhaps you might have a look? Thanks if you can! Balance person (talk) 10:51, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Balance person: Black Lives in Music is now in article space. To avoid tagging as an orphan, please make sure it is linked from other articles or lists. If the women mentioned in the article deserve biographies, you should wikilink them as red links. Maybe you would like to develop some of the biographies yourself? Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 11:44, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh thanks so much for your swift response. In a little while, I will look up about orphans and tagging and also how to wikilink as a red link. All new things to learn. Thank you! Balance person (talk) 12:20, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
For some reason, when I try to make a link between the Chineke!Orchestra page and the newly created BLIM page it says the page does not exist and puts it in red letters. Is it a question of a time lapse? Balance person (talk) 12:43, 7 February 2023 (UTC).[reply]
Balance person: There were a couple of typos which I've fixed. (In view of BLIM, I've also make a redirect from Black Lives In Music with In capitalized too.) Now it is correctly linked and no longer an orphan but you need to include a reference to your addition on the Chineke! Orchestra page. To wikilink as a redlink, you just need to place two square brackets at either side of the name and it will show up in red, for example Charisse Beaumont. Hope this helps.--Ipigott (talk) 13:00, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've done the citation and thanks very much. The double square bracket thing doesn't seem to work. I use visual editing..does that make a difference? Sorry! Balance person (talk) 13:11, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Balance person. I'm no expert in visual editing but as far as I can see, there's no reason why it shouldn't work. Can you give me an example?--Ipigott (talk) 13:18, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah HA! All I did was switch out of visual editing for a second, apply your double square brackets idea and then publish and then return to visual editor. Sorted! Thank you for your patience!Balance person (talk) 15:15, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Jumping in here: Aye, Wikicode stuff like brackets doesn't work in Visual Editor (Save some very basic stuff). Unfortunately, those of us who have been around a while already put in the effort to learn Wikicode, so switching would require relearning everything, so it's a mite harder to help. Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 8.4% of all FPs. 11:32, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I finished the first Italian. Pretty interesting life and I found photos! If you have time to give her a copyedit, I'd appreciate it. SusunW (talk) 21:43, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

SusunW: Done. I must say I was rather surprised by your use of italics for translations of the Italian titles of books, journals, etc., while leaving the original Italian without italics. I don't know whether there are any special Wikipedia rules for this but I only put translations in italics if they have actually been published as translations. You'll see I have now used italics for the Italian and removed the italics for the translations. If you disagree, just revert. Otherwise a very interesting article about WILPF and women's pacifism in Italy. Looking forward to more in the series...--Ipigott (talk) 10:54, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's weird. When I did it, the Italian titles and translations were in italics, or I thought they were. I'm trying to use that template that apparently the "text to speech readers" use to alert people who use them that the word is not in English. I probably am not doing it right, yet. I hate coding. I wish WP just used normal typing format, rather than us having to learn all these crazy coding things. *sigh* Thank you so much for your help. I truly appreciate it. And yes, I enjoyed learning about her a lot. It seems as if the Italian WILPF had a really hard time organizing as a group, ironically, because of war and politics. Mostly individual participation from what I can see. SusunW (talk) 14:17, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
SusunW: Yes I've noticed all your templates for non-English titles, etc. Rosie seems to be using them too. Thanks for explaining what they are supposed to be for. Have you ever listened to voice versions of your articles to see if they work? If they are really effective I might start using them too but I don't want to go to unnecessary trouble if they don't work.--Ipigott (talk) 14:35, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea if they work. During covid, I took some courses on disability and access and they recommended using them as well as descriptions of what is in photos. A few months ago, someone added those templates to a file I had written and so I thought I'd give it a go. We have that alt= thing, that I try to use for photos and I finally have started using language templates, but as I said, it is difficult for me. SusunW (talk) 14:54, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Now that digital voice reading is becoming so widespread it would be interesting to know how well all this works on Wikipedia. I wonder if any of the voicing systems make any provision for Wikipedia code. As far as I know, most systems simply read printed or screen-displayed text.--Ipigott (talk) 15:14, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have any idea, but I think if it's possible for us to make our work more accessible we should. Would be interesting to know if inputting all these codes actually helps or not. SusunW (talk) 16:02, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Don't want to prolong this discussion too far but I used the "alt" additions for my image captions for quite some time as they were highly recommended for GA and FA. I once specifically queried their usefulness but only received one enthusiastic response. I therefore no longer go to the trouble of using them. In the absence of any meaningful research into how blind people use Wikipedia, I have a feeling the same may be true for code developed for foreign-language titles. As far as I can see, the only efforts undertaken on Meta are in connection with encouraging more blind people to become editors but little or no attention is given to how the blind can best access our articles. I'm not sure whether this is worth putting forward more strongly and if so, I don't know where that would be. Maybe with the Blind User Group but that is really for editors. Sometimes technology moves forward more quickly than specific developments on Wikipedia. Print to voice devices are now widely used by the blind, replacing many more traditional developments.--Ipigott (talk) 16:27, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We do have at least one very prominent blind editor, Graham87, so there is input into these things. Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 8.4% of all FPs. 11:36, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Adam Cuerden, for letting me know about Graham87. I see that KaraLG84 is also an active blind editor. It would be interesting to have their reactions to the use of "alt" in image captions and also the need for special treatment of foreign language titles. As far as I can see from their recent edits, these have not received particular attention.--Ipigott (talk) 14:51, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think the language-switching features in modern screen readers are the sort of things blind people either love or hate ... I'm in the latter camp but there are certainly supporters of the idea. As for alt text, it's nice to have and I appreciate it when it's added but I'm not that hung up about it; not all blind people would agree with me on that either. I know alt text is more difficult here due to Wikipedia's requirement to attribute most images. There are cases when I think alt text is especially useful like transcribing text in an image of a cartoon, etc. There's the accessibility guideline and WikiProject Accessibility. Graham87 01:55, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Graham87, for sharing your reactions with us.--Ipigott (talk) 05:43, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Enriqueta Medellín

On 8 February 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Enriqueta Medellín, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Enriqueta Medellín, a Mexican surgeon, has an ecological center and environmental prize named after her in the state of Aguascalientes? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Enriqueta Medellín. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Enriqueta Medellín), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Women cyclist biographies to article

@Ipigott

This time, i.e. very recently, an article (Women's) Bicycling in Islam is collaboratively improved a bit from it's earlier status from a week ago. By chance do you know some one who has worked on women cyclist biography articles and may help out this article with inputs and expansion if possible?

Secondly I would like to contemplate a thought with you. Whenever I read title Bicycling and feminism one of mind says it's bit narrow in scope since all cycling women necessarily would not be feminist. Whether Women cyclists would deserve a separate article or scope of present title be expanded?

I wish to seek your views on one more difficulty I always face but for that I shall post a separate message in couple of days. Thanks Bookku (talk) 10:51, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Bookku: I'll look at your Islam article later. As for women and cycling, there's lots of sports coverage, see Category:Women's cycle racing and related categories.--Ipigott (talk) 11:01, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Now copy-edited. Can't suggest anyone interested in expanding the article.--Ipigott (talk) 15:33, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure if it counts

It is not a new biography of a woman, nor is it about a woman in red. So, I am not sure if this adds anything to the WiR project...but I have just added a section to the Farrier page on Women Farriers. The text above it is admirable in its non assumption of farriery being a male occupation...but none the less I thought it worth adding. Balance person (talk) 14:26, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Balance person It counts. Every little bit counts to add women's erasure back into society and history. Women in Red, the project includes women and their works, i.e. the things they did. I've been seeing you here on Ian's page a bunch and that makes me happy. SusunW (talk) 14:54, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh SusunW that is so encouraging! Thank you! Balance person (talk) 15:57, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Balance person: Thanks for this useful and well-sourced addition.--Ipigott (talk) 16:15, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Erna P. Harris

On 18 February 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Erna P. Harris, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that African-American journalist Erna P. Harris (pictured) was called a "fearless critic" of the internment of Japanese Americans by the US government during World War II? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Erna P. Harris. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Erna P. Harris), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. BorgQueen (talk) 00:02, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This one was hard, truly hard. Finding sources when I have no access to the British Black press, her legal name was different, and there was radio silence from 1989 to 2015 were crazy hard to overcome. I still don't know her birth name, or her mom's name. I have queries out, but I don't know if I'll get answers. I have no photos for this period in the UK, etc. etc. etc. However, all that being said, clearly notable and worthy of an article. If you have time, could you give this a copyedit? If you don't have time, no worries, but I am always concerned about British spelling. (I have one Italian women in the hopper, but not sure if I'll finish her before our visitors arrive on the 23rd.) Thank you so much. I appreciate you. SusunW (talk) 15:26, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And so, of course, the reference I was waiting on for the Italian, which made me start on Cameron in the interim, came in today. Maybe I'll get her done too. SusunW (talk) 16:48, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

She's done too now. When it rains, it pours, as they say. If you could also copyedit this one, I'd be very appreciative. Please check the Italian translations, as I am not remotely sure that they are good. Thanks! SusunW (talk) 19:30, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

As soon as I have time. Bedtime for me now.--Ipigott (talk) 20:47, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
SusunW: I've been through both Cameron and Schwarz. All that philosophical stuff in Schwarz makes it rather difficult to read. Hope it's OK now.--Ipigott (talk) 16:16, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm with you on that. The problem IMO with any philosophy entering a biography is trying to winnow it into something digestible to the average reader. Me, I had never heard of anthroposophy before, so trying to wrap my head around what it was and how it influenced her was tough. The interesting parts to me were the assertions that hers are the most common poems recited "by heart" by Italians, even if they don't know who wrote them, and all the musical works her writing spawned. I appreciate you and thank you so much for looking at them. SusunW (talk) 16:29, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think many of her "poems" are more or less equivalent to what we would call nursery rhymes. See, for example [1].--Ipigott (talk) 16:34, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Good catch. Thank you! SusunW (talk) 14:24, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from BestVitezi (05:16, 20 February 2023)

Hello, how do I upload an image file to an wiki page without it being barred or flagged? it is a map related to the page. --BestVitezi (talk) 05:16, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, BestVitezi, and welcome to Wikipedia. There are strict rules about adding images to article pages. While there are generally no restrictions on photographs you have taken yourself, most of the images you can find on the internet are protected by copyright. This is explained in some detail at Wikipedia:Image use policy. I see you have been editing Toubou people but you have not referenced the source of your information. Whenever you add or alter text, you must cite an acceptable source, for example a published book, a journal or a newspaper. See Wikipedia:Citing sources. It might be useful for you to follow some of the links on your talk page under "Getting started" in order to gain more experience in editing. You might also like to follow WP:The Wikipedia Adventure. Please let me know if you run into any other difficulties. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 06:53, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Dyk help

Requesting to have a look @ this Dyk query and help as possible. Bookku (talk) 05:23, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Bookku: I've looked through the lengthy discussion and as far as I can see you are making progress along the right lines. I would prefer not to take part in the discussion myself as I think it would just complicate things further at this stage. In any case, the reason I do not participate in DYK myself is that I have found the discussions take up too much of my editing time. It is however an interesting article which in my opinion, given the time and effort you have devoted to it, certainly deserves to go to DYK. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 06:36, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I am back from my mini-vacation from wp. Lovely visit with family, but R&R it was not. Hosting is work. At any rate, I have done Vassalini. I am a bit confused as to why certain of the Indian texts are shown in italics and others not in our articles. I am also not positive of the accuracy of the translations of the names of her works. If you have time and interest, I think it would benefit from your copyeditting. If you are too busy, no worries. SusunW (talk) 23:05, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Another interesting Italian. As she devoted so much attention to Indian religions, I was wondering if we should add Category:Italian Indologists. Strange that given her publications nothing came up from Authority control. I see there is also a biography here, giving special attention to Lo Stato Moderno which might be worth mentioning. This piece relates it to the development of the European Union.--Ipigott (talk) 10:00, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much! I couldn't find most of her publications in World cat, which was weird. I find that same issue with Mexicans and Latinas in general, even if they have published hundreds of papers. I'll see if her Wikidata entry has been created and try to add VIAF. (It is literally the only thing I know how to do on that platform, LOL). Added the category, thanks for finding it. Will take a look at the other two sources. Appreciate your finding them and your help with the article. SusunW (talk) 14:07, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Foundation project to improve PageTriage

Hi, as an active New Page Patroller, I wanted to make sure you were aware of an upcoming Wikimedia Foundation project to improve the PageTriage extension. We recently published results of user interviews, and have some findings that we would value patrollers' opinions on. If you haven't yet, please consider adding the project page to your watchlist to stay up to date with our progress! Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 13:17, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from CrossCatholicOutreach (13:57, 2 March 2023)

I created my username but I didn’t know that was going to be the name of the page I wanted to create.

Can someone please help me change it?

The username is CrossCatholicOutreach, but I would like it to be Cross Catholic Outreach.

Also, how do i publish an Article --CrossCatholicOutreach (talk) 13:57, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, CrossCatholicOutreach, and welcome to Wikipedia. I don't think it's a good idea to have a user name so close to the title of the article you want to create. I think you should choose a name that's completely different, otherwise you are likely to run into trouble. You'll find guidance on this at Wikipedia:Username policy which also has a section on "Changing your user name". As for writing an article on Cross Catholic Outreach, you need to be careful to choose information about the organization and sources for citations which are completely independent of the organization itself. These could include articles in newspapers and journals or books which have been written about it. One interesting source I have found is this news article. On your talk page, I've left a welcome message which provides links which should help you to come to grips with editing. Please let me know if you run into any problems. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 15:46, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've noticed that the articles on Ronald William Gainer and Jon L. Wanzek mention the organization.--Ipigott (talk) 15:45, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

March stories

March songs
my women's day story

today: where I learned opera, + 3 women -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:32, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

today a woman, a 2016 DYK remembered (our conductor was courageous and called her to step in for a concert on short notice, and she was interested! - only had no time that day in 2013. We got Gabriela Eibenová who was also great. Girls and women sang how Bach arranged Pergolesi's Stabat Mater to a new text paraphrasing Psalm 51, last Sunday. - What do you think about the revert for Carl Nielsen? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:38, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There's a suggestion it should be discussed on the talk page.--Ipigott (talk) 15:29, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
How about you starting, as one of the authors? Certainly not me ;) - and I believe the Sibelius-lover is a shy person. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:36, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would really prefer not to take sides on this. There's much to be said for each approach. Thanks for your useful suggestions on the nav box.--Ipigott (talk) 15:43, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Understand. Those who commented on Mozart overnight (where I would really prefer not to appear) seem not to agree ;) - Thank you today for the wonderful pictured Kae Miller! - that's what I came for. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:35, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As usual, it was nearly all Susun's work.--Ipigott (talk) 11:12, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The answer of a gentleman - not what I thought here? (I thought I asked nicely, but see what happened.) - composer Marek Kopelent died, working on Antje Vollmer, and it's Saint Patrick's Day --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:22, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
today we remember the 150th birthday of Max Reger, who saw the horrors of a world war right when it began in 1914, while others were still in high patriotic moods --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:51, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
BWV 1 today, and new pics, more of them tomorrow --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:10, 25 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Good to see Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern on the front page after all the efforts you have made to improve the article.--Ipigott (talk) 07:06, 26 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The Morgenstern was "on" last year - I write my own top stories now ;) - Sharing impressions from vacation on Madeira 20-30 March, pics at 24 Mar from the peaks, more to come. - The Mozart RfC (with a non-neutral invitation to fight) was closed, and went rather peacefully - what can we learn from it? - I saw today that Brian Boulton added an infobox to Imogen Holst in 2014, edit summary "risk" - should it still be a risk in 2023 to follow his example? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:16, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hard one, but I did okay. Very frustrating not to be able to find info about her in Argentina other than a sentence from the Diccionario Biográfico Italo-Argentino. Would that I could find that obit in España Republicana de Argentina, but I can't seem to locate any archive of it. At any rate, if you have time or interest, can you give it a copyedit? Thanks. SusunW (talk) 18:57, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

George was able to figure out the photos I wanted, yay! SusunW (talk) 14:52, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Roxane Turcotte

Hi Ian, I'm working on the translation of Roxane Turcotte from fr:Roxane Turcotte and could use your help with this sentence: "Enseignante de français et conseillère pédagogique à la Commission scolaire de Montréal, elle est nommée en 2006 au prix Bravo pour avoir intégré la littérature jeunesse à son enseignement auprès d'adultes allophone et en alphabétisation, ainsi que pour avoir été aux premières heures du conte en pyjama dans les écoles montréalaises." Thanks. --Rosiestep (talk) 22:27, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

SusunW: "A French-language teacher and educational adviser for the Commission scolaire de Montréal (Montreal School Board), she was nominated for the 2006 CACE Bravo Award (see [2]) for having included youth literature when teaching adult literacy learners and non-native-French-speakers, as well as for having participated in the first pajama story-telling sessions for infants in Montreal schools." That's the literal translation. It probably requires some basic experience of initiatives supported by the Montreal school board.--Ipigott (talk) 07:04, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This made me smile Ipigott and reminded me I haven't checked in with Rosiestep recently. Hope all is well with you Rosie. Glad to know I am not the only person who struggles with French nuances. Why did they never have pajama story-telling in the schools I went to? SusunW (talk) 14:37, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Ian. It seemed very convoluted so I appreciate you working it out. Hi, Susun! So nice to hear from you. All is well on my end. Looking forward to celebrating IWD2023 tomorrow and to continuing with translations, which I find to be very satisfying as a change from my US-focused biographies. Hope all is well on your end!! --Rosiestep (talk) 23:04, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
All good Rosie. Staying busy with the peace activists. Worked through Austria and Italy. Bit by bit. SusunW (talk) 23:11, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sorry about the mixup and hope you both are having a great women's day. Here in Luxembourg we've had very strange weather, about three inches of snow this morning which all melted by about 2 pm as the temperature rose to around 50 F. My today's contribution to Rosie's folklore initiative is the fascinating Norwegian Berit Skjefte. A great DYK if anyone is interested. Perhaps Cielquiparle? I must say, I am really disappointed to see how little interest there has been in this. I seem to have created more than half the articles myself. But there's still time for more enthusiastic participation from others.--Ipigott (talk) 18:54, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
But there are 59 new folklore articles contributed so far this year (thanks for the many that you've created, Ian!) and I think that's a win as there are other competing fun options, e.g, O-P last month and Q-R this month. I, for one, have become obsessed with our alpha initiatives! ;) The snow must have been quite pretty in Luxembourg, but hope it didn't cause traffic issues or other problems. I'm currently in NYC where it's chilly but dry. --Rosiestep (talk) 07:16, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm certainly not looking for prize money, Rosiestep, but folklore is an area deserving more attention. If I'm offered a prize, I'll try to have it transferred to the WMDC account in the hope it can be used for WiR contests. I see you have also contributed to folklore but not to the international contest.-Ipigott (talk) 07:27, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm hopeful that Gamaliel will sort out the international contest (wiki-Meta) bits for Women in Red at the end of the campaign. --Rosiestep (talk) 08:01, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Now that I'm an active DYK hook promoter, I hesitate to submit DYK nominations if I don't have to, as it creates COI issues downstream and means you may have to wait for months for your hook to finally get promoted by someone other than me. Cielquiparle (talk) 11:36, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
(Strangely enough, there seems to have been a drop recently in the number of biographical articles submitted for DYK (male or female). Potential upside for anyone at WIR who submits and is willing to go through the process.) Cielquiparle (talk) 11:39, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for responding, Cielquiparle, and explaining the difficulties involved. I fully understand.--Ipigott (talk) 12:03, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Looking for information

I was looking for information on en WP admins who edited Non-biography Women's rights related WP articles. (Preferably between February and March of any year). Approaching to whom and where will be better for this information. Thanks Bookku (talk) 10:40, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Updating Dana Pe'er Wikipedia Biography

Hi Ipigott, I noticed you on WP:Women in Business and thought you might be interested in an article I'm suggesting improvements. Dana Pe'er's article is outdated and lacks context about her research. I've proposed an updated version of the article in my sandbox. Are you open to reviewing the sandbox? If you approve, would you be open to publishing the new version? I have a COI with the subject, so, I'll refrain from directly editing unless otherwise permitted. Appreciate your help in advance.---- Chefmikesf (talk) 19:07, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Chefmikesf}: Thanks for alerting me on your suggestions. I'll look more carefully at it all tomorrow.--Ipigott (talk) 20:05, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Chefmikesf}: Some of the new content in your sandbox looks reasonable but as the existing article has been widely edited, it's not possible simply to replace everything with your version. If you would like to suggest one or two important improvements, it might be possible to have them incorporated. The normal way of going about this is to make a list of suggestions for updating on the article's talk page.--Ipigott (talk) 15:00, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Ipigott, Thanks for the feedback on the sandbox. I will work on a request-style post for the sandbox talk page. Do you mind if I tag you once complete?--Best Chefmikesf (talk) 18:11, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Chefmikesf}: By all means let me know how you are progressing.--Ipigott (talk) 20:46, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

While waiting to resolve my Italian, I wrote this Hungarian who has long been on my list. If you can give it a copyedit, that'd be great. I've asked George to work on the photo, as this one is really confusing to me whether we can use it or it needs to be fair use. I appreciate you and your help. SusunW (talk) 17:55, 15 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

SusunW: Done, although as I have no knowledge of Hungarian I haven't been able to look into the sources or check the translations.--Ipigott (talk) 07:21, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I sent a message to Gergo and hope he will respond. I appreciate your help with it. Seemed weird we didn't have an article on her since she led the only feminist organization in the country from basically 1925 to 1958. SusunW (talk) 13:49, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your message to RichardDehn

Hello, Ipigott! You left a nice cordial message for the user RichardDehn, but you mis-typed his name, so that the message wound up posted on User talk:Richard Dehn. There is no such user as Richard Dehn. You'll see your post in the history. I have redirected that page to User:RichardDehn. You might want to re-post your message on that page. Thanks for encouraging other users! MelanieN (talk) 16:50, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for alerting me, MelanieN. I've reposted. There's been some confusion about this as until yesterday there was a user page with this name. See the revision history of User:RichardDehn.--Ipigott (talk) 17:10, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, that explains it! I encountered the Richard Dehn talk page because it was tagged for CSD as G8, "dependent on a nonexistent page". But with a little research I found the true user name and redirected the talk page there instead of deleting it. Good thing, it means that your note is retrievable. -- MelanieN (talk) 18:56, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
More importantly, MelanieN, I would like to congratulate you on Omar (opera). Great stuff!--Ipigott (talk) 14:44, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I saw it in Los Angeles and it was absolutely amazing. -- MelanieN (talk) 15:30, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The next Hungarian. If you could give it a copyedit, that would be super. If you are too busy or not interested, not to worry. SusunW (talk) 14:52, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • SusunW: Once again, very little to do on this one. I wonder whether it would help to refer to her as Pogany Bennett rather than just Bennett. There's at least one case where it is not clear whether Bennett refers to her or to her husband.--Ipigott (talk) 17:08, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for looking at it. I can do that. SusunW (talk) 17:14, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Kryptside (23:38, 20 March 2023)

Hello friend.

Where can I find the rules/policies or best practices on how to edit Wikipedia? I'd appreciate it if you could send some links that are helpful, or any videos too.

I am new to this stuff and I want to do it long-term. I was just wondering where I could find relatively detailed info on all the things to know when learning how to write and edit on Wiki.

Thanks for your help in advance. --Kryptside (talk) 23:38, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, Kryptside, and welcome to Wikipedia. You will find lots of useful links on your talk page. Please let me know if you run into any problems. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 06:25, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot seem to escape that Mexican activists are musicians. I would appreciate if you give this one a copy edit and hope that you enjoy it. SusunW (talk) 20:32, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

SusunW: Busy day today but I've finally found time to go through it. As you say, like virtually all your biographies, a really enjoyable read. I think however that all the details of her father's first wife and children are rather confusing in the absence of anything about his second wife, her mother.--Ipigott (talk) 16:00, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for looking at it. I appreciate your help. I couldn't find any information on her mother at all, but felt it important to include her half-siblings (often women can only be tracked through relatives). Perhaps I'll check genealogical sources again and see if that pans out for Dolores Gil. I appreciate you! SusunW (talk) 16:08, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's just that after all those details about his first marriage, we're obviously keen to hear at least a word or two about his second wife. If you can't find anything, then perhaps all the other details can be put into a note. I've one other minor query about the name of the opera: you first give it a Spanish name then an Italian one. Did it ever exist in Spanish or was it only her libretto? If you don't know, don't worry.--Ipigott (talk) 16:20, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I found her parents' marriage record, clearly showing they married while he was governor of Jalisco and also an older brother who died at a few months old. Added that info. On the opera, I don't know. Negrete, who discovered it as first, gives only the Italian name. I could not figure out which of Romero's "manuscrito sobre la ópera en México" she was talking about, but she said he not only gave the date and place of the premier, but also listed who played the roles. Regardless, checking him in worldcat and googling titles I found of his works, none of them are fully accessible and most have no view at all. Pareyón's entire listing is "Dos amores. Ópera de Rafael J. Tello. Estrenada en el teatro Nacional de la ciudad de México en 1916, con el título en italiano, Due amori", which is where I picked up the Spanish title. SusunW (talk) 17:15, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It occurs to me that the confusion might stem from the fact that one performance was in Spanish and another in Italian. Hmmmm? SusunW (talk) 17:15, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I so wish I had a useable photo of her funerary monument, but maybe someone will provide same. If you want to give this one a once-over, that'd be great. SusunW (talk) 17:56, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

SusunW: Very informative but you'll need to look more carefully at the last para in the Activism section as there is some confusion about the number of conferences or congresses. When you say she led a delegation of 21 women, it looks to me as if this was to one specific congress. I'm not sure my edits are correct. Any date for the Peace and Minorities Commission?--Ipigott (talk) 07:28, 25 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm on it. The 21 women was to the follow up conference in Bucharest. Not sure but I'll check. Thank you so much for these constructive comments. I appreciate you. SusunW (talk) 13:20, 25 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am not finding any date for the P&M Commission. Perhaps when we get the article written on the Consiliului Naţional al Femeilor Române it will surface? Most of my searches on the National Council simply turn up information on the main organization. Only 1 even mentioned the Transylvanian in reference to the 1925 Congress. SusunW (talk) 17:59, 25 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry about the date. I just wondered if you could find one but it's not a big issue. Thanks for clarifying the other points I raised. Looks good.--Ipigott (talk) 07:48, 26 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

help request for Sabrina Ferilli

Good evening from Campora San Giovanni, I am writing to thank you for helping Liliana Mele, it was very welcome and very kind. I was wondering if it would be possible to give a small but healthy help to the article on Sabrina Ferilli, just and no more than 10 minutes of your precious time. Of course if I can do something in return I will do it within my limits and possibilities. While waiting to hear from you, I wish you a good evening. Luigi Salvatore Vadacchino (talk) 19:22, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, Luigi. The article on SF has been improved substantially since it was tagged in 2009. It does nevertheless require further work as additional sources need to be added, not only in connection with the calls for "citation needed" but at the end of each paragraph which has not yet been referenced. As you are an experienced editor yourself, you should be able to take care of this. Let me know when you've added the missing sources and I'll take a new look at the article. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 05:37, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Took a while, but with Maria Grazia Suriano's help, I think it's sorted. Wish I had better sourcing on her family, but it's a start and hopefully someone will fill in her details in the future. New research is ongoing and I added the link Suriano sent, but obviously as it's Italian I have no clue, except, that I asked George if he could pull photos from it ;). If you have time to give her a once-over, I'd appreciate it. SusunW (talk) 15:54, 30 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

SusunW: Done. My only question is in regard to Rosa Genoni moving her Milan organization to Rome. It looks as if it remained separate from the existing Rome organization but this seems strange. Any clarifications? Unfortunately there's nothing about this in the article on Genoni.--Ipigott (talk) 14:06, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The answer to my understanding is simply that Genoni stopped being active and all WILPF activities from that point originated in Rome. I'll try to reword it. I am so happy you told me to contact Suriano. She was a big help. We're still working on trying to find Dobelli's birth certificate and education, but Suriano wanted me to go ahead and publish what we had. (Suriano 30 March: "I read your draft very carefully. For Anita Dobelli some data are missing, it is true, but to date yours is the most complete biographical reconstruction and so you should publish it. I think the profile can also be supplemented later".) I found the Brescia State Archives registry, but it only seems to have digitized records for Gardone through 1812. Also there is the article she wrote Dieci mesi in America, which makes me wonder if she was educated in the US. I couldn't find the article anywhere, but this seems to indicate that a copy is held in the Cesare Donati collection at the Accademia della Crusca. Perhaps we'll make further discoveries or another scholar's interest will be piqued and they will try to resolve these things. SusunW (talk) 14:23, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In any case. the article certainly documents her most significant activities. Well done!--Ipigott (talk) 15:27, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How to add an entry

Hey, thanks for your offer. How can I add an entry to Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Redlist index. Thilsebatti (talk) 09:46, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I should fist explain, Thilsebatti, that it is not possible to add names to the Wikidata lists (marked WD in the index) which are created automatically from info on Wikidata. But if the person is not yet on Wikidata, you can create a Wikidata entry after which the name should appear on the relevant lists, triggered by the Wikidata info on country, profession, DOB, etc. Alternatively, you can add the name to one of the crowd-sourced (CW) lists, for example Women writers, preferably with two or three good secondary sources. If all else fails, you can always use Missing articles by nationality. Hope this helps. If not, let me know the name of the woman in question and I'll try to help. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 10:08, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Seems too complex for me to handle:) The women in question is Molly Kannamaly, an actress with more than 30 appearances in Malayalam films. I was going to create an article about her. But if I create this the traditional way, will this appear in the Women in Red list of new articles? Inorder for a new article about a woman to appear there, what should be done? Thilsebatti (talk) 10:17, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for creating the entry in wikidata. Thilsebatti (talk) 11:10, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thilsebatti: First of all there's no need for a name to be on the WiR redlists if you want to create an article. The redlists are simply for guidance. (I have now added an English entry on Wikidata and so she should appear in future updates of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Missing articles by occupation/Actresses - India). In the case of film actresses, it is particularly important to find sources which assess their abilities and performances. Those simply listing the films she has appeared in may not be considered sufficient by those reviewing new articles. In particular, IMDb is not considered to be sufficiently reliable (but may be useful under External links). I see her health has been under discussion in recent press coverage. There may be useful biographical information in one or more of these reports. There seems to be some useful biographical info on Nerrv4u although I do not know if this site is reliable or acceptable. I see we already have an ML Wikipedia article at [3] but it does not present much more that the films she appeared in. If you think you can find enough reliable information, go ahead with a new biography or prepare a draft and I'll take a look. Happy editing.--Ipigott (talk) 11:11, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I got reliable sources in Malayalam language. [4], [5]. Morevoer, she has acted in notable supporting roles in multiple films to pass WP:NACTOR. Thilsebatti (talk) 11:16, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thilsebatti: Sounds good. I look forward to her biography.--Ipigott (talk) 11:21, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Novel and play

Hello again! To support the push for more novels by women, I decided to do one from the red list provided. On searching for 'The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives' I discovered that the author, Lola Shoneyin, has a page of her own and that the stage play of the same title as the book has a page too. Someone at The Teahouse suggested that I draft a page for the book and then, if it was acceptable, it could have the title of the book whereas the stage play would have the title followed by the word '(Play)'. I know you are always busy helping other people so no hurry at all from my side but I wondered if at some point you could look at the draft to see if it is useable as suggested? Thanks if you can! Balance person (talk) 11:54, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Balance person: Rather busy today. I'll try to look at this tomorrow.--Ipigott (talk) 11:58, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wonderful! Thanks and NO HURRY! Balance person (talk) 12:00, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Balance person: It seems to me quite reasonable to create a separate article on the novel. Initially you could title it The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives (novel). Once it has been accepted on mainspace, we can discuss renaming or possibly even merging. As for your draft, it might meet notability as it is but on the basis of your previous work, I think you should at least develop a section on critical assessment and expand on the awards. If you really want ideas on what other aspects you could cover, see for example, The Grapes of Wrath. Hope this helps.--Ipigott (talk) 16:24, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much. I will have a ponder now! Balance person (talk) 16:32, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your advice. I hope I have followed it except that I cannot seem to change the title of my draft to include (novel) and, when I use the red title you kindly sent, I do get a new page with correctly added (novel) but when I copy and paste my work into it I lose all the links and citations. Sorry to be so hopeless! Could you take another look at some point to see if it is up to scratch now and how to change the title? Thanks if you can! BTW thanks for directing me to Grapes of Wrath page. I had no idea how sneaky Steinbeck had been in the matter of attributions to field worker notes. What a cad! Balance person (talk) 11:03, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page watcher) @Balance person I've moved your draft for you, to User:Balance person/ The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives (novel), which I think is what you wanted. Never a good idea to try and copy-and-paste any move as it risks losing the history, but to lose the citations etc, perhaps you copied the displayed text rather than the code? Anyway, all looks OK now, I hope. PamD 11:18, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh thanks you clever person! Are you allowed to see if the draft is now worth putting on main space or do I need to contact an admin person or women in red? Balance person (talk) 11:40, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Where is the draft now?--Ipigott (talk) 05:43, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In mainspace as The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives (novel): Balance person mangled a move and Maddy from Celeste then moved it. PamD 07:39, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. In fact Victuallers suggested I go ahead and move it to main space which I did with help as I made a mistake with the title! It is now a page and I have been adding links to it and citations. Hope you think it is okay? Maybe it will support the books by women push this month? Thanks for your suggestions on it! Balance person (talk) 07:41, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I see it's coming on very well. As I've been pretty tied up over the last day or two, I didn't have time to look into it.--Ipigott (talk) 07:49, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Irmgard Österwall

Hi Ian- Irmgard Österwall has been tagged for notability for about a decade. I can't read any relevant languages here-- can you help me in determining notability here? Thanks, Eddie891 Talk Work 19:39, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Eddie891. Thanks for picking this up. The Swedish source provided most of the info used in the article. I've removed the tag as it was added minutes after article creation and the article has been subsequently improved and expanded.--Ipigott (talk) 05:39, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The first blue link

B. Sujatha Devi. The first article that I created after joining Women in Red. Happy to contribute:) Thilsebatti (talk) 00:51, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thilsebatti: Thanks for letting me know. You've made a good start. I see you have rated the article Start class, no doubt on the basis of Rater or ORES. As it contains only 127 words of running text, I would have rated it Stub. See, for example, Wikipedia:Stub. Our automatic assessment tools (which are not specific to the EN Wikipedia) appear to take references and headings into account whereas human assessors usually look for at least 200 words of running prose before considering Start status. DYK insists on a minimum 300 words of prose. Perhaps you would like to take this into account for future ratings.--Ipigott (talk) 06:03, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. Pardon with that. I just created another article Maanasi and gave it start rating. I will be more aware from the next time onwards. Thank you Thilsebatti (talk) 06:06, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thilsebatti: Quick work. As both ORES and Rater recommend Stub for Maanas, I re-rated it.--Ipigott (talk) 07:32, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm so glad that you noticed me of WIR. That was a motivation. Now I have created the third article. Cheers!! Thilsebatti (talk) 10:08, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thilsebatti: In Mary John Koothattukulam you write "After retiring from the postal service in 1960, she lived with his sister and family in a house at Thiruvananthapuram". Do you mean "her sister" and if not who is the man involved?. (To avoid user name problems, simply sign your messages with four tildes. If you can't find them on your keyboard, you'll see them under Wiki markup at the foot of the page.)--Ipigott (talk) 10:16, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The citation just says that she lived with her sister and family. I have no further clarification on that. Online sources are scarce. But I will try to figure it out. Thilsebatti (talk) 10:25, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thilsebatti: Then you should change it to "her sister", not "his".--Ipigott (talk) 10:28, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oops. Just noticed that! This happens when you are not a native speaker of English. Thilsebatti (talk) 10:41, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

April songs

April songs
my story today

Congratulations!! - My story today is about the Alchymic Quartet, - I went away from DYK but it's the last one from last year. - The songs are about vacation, continued. - I heard 3 fabulous opera singers yesterday, - one of them has an article of 1 sentence, since 2008 ... - I had heard and worked on the other 2 before, expanded one and created the other. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:50, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I loved to see Marian Anderson and her story of protest against discrimination by singing on Easter Sunday 9 April 1939 on the Main page yesterday. Impressions of Easter here and music here. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:17, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

My story today, Messiah (Handel), was my first dip into the FA ocean, thanks to great colleagues. - a few pics added, one day missing --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:08, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Well you could hardly have chosen a better topic for your first FA. Wonderful work.--Ipigott (talk) 13:29, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The choice was the colleagues' who were kind enough to invite me to join after I had reviewed and made changes. One died, and the other ... - well, today's story is about Johanna Geisler, the wife to "his" Otto Klemperer. More here if you have time. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:41, 16 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Today: 80th birthday of John Eliot Gardiner, - and I missed yours, sorry. Enlarging the blue flower of hope fighting cold circumstances, with the best wishes! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:38, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Just sharing a concern

@ WP:WPWIR/research sub page I happened to come across research paper -- Berson, Amber; (June 2021)."Unreliable Guidelines: Reliable Sources and Marginalized Communities in French, English and Spanish Wikipedias" (PDF). Art+Feminism -- which discusses gender issues @ WP policy level. Actually I always strive for widest possible inputs from all sides and time and again I had been posting input requests @ WT:WIRED but beyond writing biographies -barring few exceptional exceptions- response is usually too lack luster, for example I posted this previous input request . So over a period I have substantially reduced posting input requests @ WT:WIRED , even when I post usually I expect a blank response in advance itself.

This time I started a discussion @ WT:MOS/legal which may be relevant to BLP cases MeToo kind of legal case reporting. But I don't feel confident of response then I feel am I unnecessarily spamming WT:WIRED with input request. May be that's vicious circle editors not writing much beyond bios so they don't have opinions to share in policy discussions. Since they have not shared opinions policies continue to be skewed in terms of balanced gender participation.

Bookku (talk) 05:58, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Bookku: Thanks for this. I was able to access the report from here.--Ipigott (talk) 06:04, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Bookku: Am I right in thinking you are concerned about the inclusion of primary vs secondary sources in articles address legal issues or are there other problems? In any case, it seems to me some of your concerns would be best addressed to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Law.--Ipigott (talk) 09:37, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes - (It's not necessarily Vs, since though Legal judgements of appellate courts are considered primary sources for encyclopedic purposes, primacy is supposed to go to them where factual inaccuracy about a judgement is concerned.) - I have initiated discussion to have consensus on detail primacy protocol and weight to cite primary and secondary sources. When sources are Law journals and Legal academics there won't be much theoretical difference of opinion on WP. Practically users are not aware of existing MOS/legal guideline .
  • Secondly most users mainly depend on RS news media without paying attention whether reporter or opinion giver is having any legal background or not. So I am trying encourage to have consensus to give primacy and weight first to Law journals and Legal academics where available. If lagal background sources are not available we rely on RS news media but among that primacy should go to RS news media where reporters or opinion givers have some legal background or exposure.
  • Over all BLP political things are already sensational if woman / other gender BLP is involved may have additional layers of sensationalism. And that introduces some distortions even in RS news media. So I am trying to include some additional precautionary measures while evaluating sources.
  • My general policy improvement concerns will get solved any way at some point of time. Women do not seem participating in most policy making discussions even where they are supposed to have stakes, idk how far how that situation is going to improve. Let that be we can't have solutions to every thing in the world.

YStub and YStart

Greetings!

Some of the articles that I have created were earlier assessed as "Stub" and "Start". But now they are showing as "YStub" and "YStart" respectively. This is just for sake of understanding I want to know the changes and what does it mean. I tried to check in WP by searching Ystub and Ystart but couldnt find. Thanks and regards, Thirukannan (talk) 14:42, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thirukannan: This is a temporary problem caused by an editing error in connection with the assessment tools. It has now been corrected. In accordance with advice from the Village pump, I've null edited those with Y ratings on the Xtools list. You will see they are now correct.--Ipigott (talk) 15:49, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for the prompt response and your valuable time. Now it is clear for me. Thirukannan (talk) 17:14, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I am working on an article on Amado and have found a review of her book La imagen justa, but the problem is that I do not understand the "play on words" that is referenced here on page 2, 2nd ¶ about the title of the work. Can you help? SusunW (talk) 20:58, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I keep thinking about this and still am not sure I understand, maybe the "right" image, as in the politically correct image, vs. freedom of expression? Or are we talking aesthetics vs. what one is allowed to publish? SusunW (talk) 22:38, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
SusunW: It's all about the contrast between "just" derived from "justice" or that based on its meaning as "correct". This was triggered by the quote "It's not a just (correct) image but just an image." So maybe your interpretation is correct. Hope this helps.--Ipigott (talk) 05:34, 4 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much! That is what I needed. Just instead of right. Same play of words but easier to deal with. I've moved the article to mainspace if you want to give it a once-over. SusunW (talk) 14:35, 4 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Done. If it's not too difficult, can you find any further background on her connections with Leiden University? It seems rather strange that Leiden suddenly pops up after her associations with other universities. I suppose she must have spent quite some time in the Netherlands in connection with her PhD. Perhaps there was a connection with the Leiden International Film Festival which was founded in 2006.--Ipigott (talk) 09:05, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As you point out yourself, the connection simply seems to be Carranza. So let's just leave it at that.--Ipigott (talk) 09:20, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for your help with her. Fascinating (but tragic) life. I was shocked she didn't have an article on WP.es. Maybe someone will now write one. SusunW (talk) 14:15, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Woman in Red Mariam Abdullah Al-Jaber

Hello Ipigott, Unfortunately, the article I wrote, Mariam Abdullah Al Jaber, has been moved to the "Draft" section. I asked the editor about it on his talk page. At first I got a reply, but then I was ignored. If you have time, could you take a look at my article and the discussion on the editor's talk page? And maybe tell me what I did wrong or what I could have done better? So far, I do not think this should be a draft, as I also followed the Ten Simple Rules. Thank you in advance for your efforts. Lara Ri2 (talk) 14:45, 6 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lara Ri2: Thanks for getting in touch with me on this. At first sight, I would say your biography deserves to be on mainspace. I'm pretty busy at the moment but I'll look at it more carefully tomorrow. In the meantime, you could perhaps find out what her present position is. Have you seen this? It might be possible to find out more recent information by searching under her name in Arabic.--Ipigott (talk) 15:39, 6 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Ipigott. Yes, I have seen the source, which already is in the article. I also tried to search under her name in Arabic. I have really processed all the information I have found. I will see if I can find out more. Lara Ri2 (talk) 12:23, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Lara Ri2: I've moved it to article space. You might be able to expand on the categories and make wikilinks from related articles. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 13:56, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much Ipigott. Lara Ri2 (talk) 14:30, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Citing a dissertation

Greetings.

I need your help to clarify the followings. Is it possible to cite a university's dissertation as reference which is available online?. Secondly, if it is allowed, is there any separate citation template?. Thanks & regards, @Thirukannan Thirukannan (talk) 17:37, 8 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Always good to see you help out with queries on my page, Pam.--Ipigott (talk) 05:35, 9 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

On April 2, you assessed Martyrs of Campo di Marte to be a stub. I am of the opinion that the article can qualify as a start-class article per WP:CL-RULE. Can you kindly look into this? Festucalextalk 10:55, 9 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Ipigott: since you're at it, can you also review Amal Dunqul and Ahmed Matar? I improved them significantly. You can find the diff links in this template: {{User:Festucalex/Template:Articles improved}}
Festucalextalk 11:19, 9 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi there Festucalex and thanks for getting in touch. It's good to see you have recently become such an active editor and have produced a bunch of interesting, well referenced articles. As you have apparently noticed, I've been looking at them rather carefully and providing assessments. While some of them certainly deserve Start, C-class and even B-class, it still seems to me that Martyrs of Campo di Marte should remain a Stub for the time being, not just because of its length but because it could easily be expanded on the basis of sources such as this. It's a good article and you shouldn't take the Stub assessment as detrimental. If you don't agree, you are of course free to give it a Start rating yourself, especially as the automatic rating tools ORES and Rater both suggest start. In my opinion, however, this is in part due to the fact that it contains some rather lengthy citations. I hope you find these comments helpful. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 12:10, 9 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Good suggestion with that source, Ipigott. I'll use it (and others, if I can find more) to expand the article to a more start-like state once I'm finished with the article I'm currently expanding. And thanks for the kind words. Festucalextalk 13:24, 9 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from CrossCatholicOutreach (14:57, 13 April 2023)

hi there! i published i think 1 or 2 articles. What can i do to get this published? i want to get this page live. --CrossCatholicOutreach (talk) 14:57, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

CrossCatholicOutreach: Can you provide a link to the article(s) you want to publish. I can't find anything under your contributions.--Ipigott (talk) 15:00, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from CrossCatholicOutreach (19:21, 17 April 2023)

i want to be able to publish articles and do something similar to this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross_International - Cross Catholic Outreach is the sister organization of Cross International --CrossCatholicOutreach (talk) 19:21, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

CrossCatholicOutreach: On your talk page, you can follow the links to see how to edit and create articles. I suggest you begin a draft under user:CrossCatholicOutreach/new article which will allow us to see what you have in mind.--Ipigott (talk) 19:32, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, i think i did it, can you confirm? CrossCatholicOutreach (talk) 14:45, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
CrossCatholicOutreach: I'm afraid there are some serious problems here. First of all, you cannot use your user name as the title of an article. I seriously suggest you change it to avoid confusion. You could, for example, change it to user:CCO. You can see how to go about it at Wikipedia:Changing username. Then you can start creating an article following the guidelines on your talk page and Help:Your first article. The most important thing is to make sure the statements in your article are backed by good secondary sources, such as information published in newspapers, journals and books. Please let me know if you need further assistance.--Ipigott (talk) 16:29, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I know you are busy and I haven't been asking you to look at many of the women's studies articles, but if you have time to give this one a copy-edit, I'd appreciate it. SusunW (talk) 20:35, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I may be busy but never too busy to look through your interesting new articles, Susun. Please don't hesitate to let me know if there's anything you think I can help with.--Ipigott (talk) 06:07, 18 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Title V may be common knowledge for Americans but it was new to me. Perhaps a word of explanation?--Ipigott (talk) 08:14, 18 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Can do and thank you so much. I really appreciate the help! SusunW (talk) 14:44, 18 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This one took a while as had to order in sources, but I think I'm done. If you could give it a copyedit, I'd appreciate it. If not, no worries. SusunW (talk) 22:56, 18 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

SusunW: Two things struck me about this. I found it strange that she is "remembered as one of the prominent feminists of Romania in the inter-war period" as she died in 1919, just a year after the end of World War I. From the article it looks as if she was active much earlier, especially from around 1913. (But maybe she continued to be influential well after her death.) Less important is the lack of capitalization in "boys' school number 2", etc. "Boys' School Number 2" would seem to me to be more natural in English but I'll leave it to you.--Ipigott (talk) 06:48, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure why they classified her as that in the sources, maybe because her book Femeia was revised and came out in a second edition in 1921? Lots of sources mention that version of the book, not the previous one from 1913. I will capitalize the schools. Thanks for your help! SusunW (talk) 13:56, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
SusunW: How about something like "... continued to be remembered as one of Romania's prominent feminists in the inter-war period."--Ipigott (talk) 14:03, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Good! Thanks. SusunW (talk) 14:06, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Possible new article

Hello! I have had some help from scopecreep with a draft article about Beverley Ann Lawrence Beech, UK birth activist who died recently. If you think it would be useful to the project and is ready enough, I will endeavour to move it properly to main space. But if you think more needs to be done, I will certainly hold fire. Absolutely no hurry as I know you are busy. I just trust your judgment absolutely. Balance person (talk) 12:56, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Balance person: Thanks for getting in touch. As I mentioned under your "Polite request" on the WiR talk page, I think you could now move User:Balance person/Beverley Ann Lawrence Beech to article space with the title Beverley Lawrence Beech. In addition to suggestions and edits by scopecreep, I see several other contributors have helped the article along. Once you have moved the article, you should activate the categories and perhaps add one or two more if you can find some you think are appropriate. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 13:54, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh thank you! I must have missed those comments. I will go and find them now. All good wishes Balance person (talk) 13:58, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Balance person: Glad to see it's now in article space. I've added Authority control, defaultsort and a category. On the talk page, I have rated it C class and included a WIR tag. Just let me know if ever you need further assistance.--Ipigott (talk) 16:45, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It looks marvellous, thank you! I wonder if there is some kind of training I could get to learn all this sort of thing. I think Victuallers said there were sessions on Fridays sometimes but I haven't seen them advertised. In the meantime, I am really grateful for all the help that you and others so willingly and kindly give. And now the result of the WiR project pulling together like this is that people will be able to find out a little about the work and life of another terrific woman, Beech. Balance person (talk) 18:15, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Balance person: Just take things one step at a time. You are already making wonderful progress. Each time you create a new article, you become more familiar with new aspects of editing. What is most important is that you seem to be able to identify people who deserve to be covered on Wikipedia. As you can see in this case, we are all only too happy to help you out with the technicalities. Perhaps Victuallers can get back to you on his editing sessions. If not, just keep in touch with me.--Ipigott (talk) 19:48, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Doubt about adding the image.

Hi, I created the article K. P. A. C. Sulochana after translating from Malayalam Wikipedia. [6]. Her Malayalam Wiki has an image. How can I add it into English Wikipedia Thilsebatti (talk) 07:44, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thilsebatti: The ml image has been added on the basis of fair use as the person is no longer living and no free images appear to be available. You can use the same approach if you add it to EN Wikipedia. See explanations at Wikipedia:Non-free content and see File:Muriel Tuteur.jpg as an example. Hope this helps.--Ipigott (talk) 08:44, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I had to do her because I discovered her while doing Buțureanu. If you have time or the inclination, could you give it a copyedit? Thanks SusunW (talk) 17:11, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

SusunW: Yes, she certainly deserves a biography. Only one minor comment: under Selected works, you link Women & Gender in Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, and Eurasia: A Comprehensive Bibliography to Vol 1 although you reference it as Vol 2.--Ipigott (talk) 06:24, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Totally weird that I cannot find volume 2 anywhere. Only volume 1 for 2007, but I did find the 2015 reprint. Thanks for noticing that. SusunW (talk) 13:56, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Q on portals

Hi, Ipigott! Quick question ... Can musical compositions by Finnish composers be added to the Finland portal? I'm trying to get better about placing portal bars (and short descriptions) on the classical compositions I write about, and wanted to check with a more experienced editor first. Thanks, ~ Silence of Järvenpää 00:57, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting question, Silence of Järvenpää. I'm not at all sure presenting compositions on the portal would be very helpful as it is unfortunately not accessed very often. In any case, I think it might first be useful to create a List of works by classical Finnish composers (although I cannot find similar lists for other countries). This could perhaps specifically present the most significant works by each composer together with links to more comprehensive lists such as List of compositions by Jean Sibelius or the Template:Jean Sibelius. As Music of Finland is frequently accessed, the section on Classical music could also be expanded and could include links to List of Finnish composers and the List of compositions. The item on Music in Culture of Finland could also be improved. I realize this may require significant effort and might not have any measurable influence on access to articles on individual compositions. Nevertheless, in addition to writing articles on individual compositions, it may be useful to devote some time to improving general articles and lists.--Ipigott (talk) 06:43, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Ian, for your detailed and helpful response. You know, I have thought about improving List of Finnish composers before, but ultimately held off because I just don't know that much about (nor have an interest in) modern composers ... Maybe if I ever find a collaborator who does! I think it's also a good idea for me to start branching out to the other articles you cited ... but I always find it hard to contribute to developed existing articles, because I like citation templates that don't fit with the typical ref style. I know, I know ... how fussy of me. Anyway, hope you've been well! Aside: I've been thinking about some time in the future trying to get Aino Sibelius up to B or GA. Given your contributions to Jean's page, as well as your dedicated to the WikiProjects of Women in Red and Women in Green, I thought it might be something that, too, could interest you. I have 20+ books on Sibelius, and of course, Aino is well covered. Her letters to Jean were recently published, albeit in Finnish. How I wish they'd have been translated! Warmly, ~ Silence of Järvenpää 00:58, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Silence of Järvenpää There's certainly much more to be said about Aino Sibelius. I see the Finnish article already presents additional details and you should be able to find a lot more in your books. Just let me know when you think I could usefully help you along.--Ipigott (talk) 05:28, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you have time and the inclination could you give this one a copyedit? Totally surprised me her peace activities ;) SusunW (talk) 21:33, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

SusunW: Very little to do on this one.--Ipigott (talk) 16:13, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate your help. Thanks! SusunW (talk) 16:24, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I know I usually ask you to look at articles after I have moved them to mainspace, but this one is a bit different. Kusma and I have been working for months to try to piece her story together. GRuban was key in helping wade through the old Russian sources. The problem is that we are so close to the subject and know the details, that I am not sure we can adequately see if there are "holes" or if it is clear who is who. For example, Eliza was actually Anna Elizabeth Planta and she had sisters also named Anna Planta and Elizabeth Planta. Eliza's daughter was also Elizabeth, as was her granddaughter. She worked for Mary Bowes, and subsequently Mary Eleanor Bowes. Typically to avoid calling women by their first names we use the surnames, but with all the overlapping names and intrigues in her life, we aren't sure if it is clear. Could you take a look? If you don't have time or aren't interested, no worries. SusunW (talk) 14:40, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

SusunW: I seem to remember looking at this earlier after seeing it discussed on a talk page. I'll try to go through it tomorrow but as we are expecting guests tomorrow evening for a few days it might take longer than usual. Let's see how it goes. There's absolutely no problem looking at articles which have not yet been moved to mainspace.--Ipigott (talk) 15:24, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We appreciate it very much. No rush, obviously we've been working on it quite a while. Thank you. SusunW (talk) 15:31, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Another problem is that Susun and I have both done a bit of additional research (via some archives and parish records, guessing at identities of various people, so a bit on the wrong side of WP:OR) and so we may have internalised some extra information about the people involved that isn't visible to the reader. While I don't think we need much more than a sanity check by an observant reader, there really is no urgency (I certainly have taken my time writing this, in the vain hope of finding better answers to contradictions between sources, so another week or two is nothing). —Kusma (talk) 16:34, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
SusunW: I find the section "Employment by Mary Eleanor Bowes" particularly confusing. Even though you explain that Elizabeth was Eliza's older sister in the lead, I think it deserves to be made much clearer in the Employment section. I've made a minor edit which may help but I recommend you look at it more closely.-Ipigott (talk) 15:20, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so very much for looking at this Ian. I genuinely appreciate your help. Pinging Kusma because he wrote the UK part and I wrote the Russia part, so he is more familiar with the sources in that section. SusunW (talk) 15:25, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your suggestion and your copyedits, Ian! I have tried to clarify further, at the cost of being a little redundant. We could call Eliza "Ann Eliza" (even though her baptism entry says "Anna Elizabeth"), as we have not mentioned her sister Anna, who emigrated to North America. But the sources mainly use "Elizabeth"/"Eliza" to distinguish them. (Not that I follow the sources at all times: Moore says "Bowes" for the guy I call "Stoney" after they got married, and keeps calling his wife "Mary Eleanor"). @SusunW: if Ian thinks it is a little better now, do you mind if I move this to mainspace some time over the weekend? —Kusma (talk) 16:09, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As you desire Kusma. I think we've done about all that we can do unless we find sources to make certain things clearer. SusunW (talk) 16:40, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Moving it to mainspace may well attract further constructive comments.--Ipigott (talk) 20:18, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Now at Eliza Stephens. Thanks again! —Kusma (talk) 09:57, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Daćić Aaron Magama (18:01, 3 May 2023)

9 copy cats are in a plane, 1 jumps out how many remain? --Daćić Aaron Magama (talk) 18:01, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, Daćić Aaron Magama, and welcome to Wikipedia. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 19:16, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Quite frankly I was shocked that she did not have an article on en.WP because there are so many English-language sources, but that said, I was thrilled to learn about her and write it. If you have time and the inclination, could you give it a copyedit? Thanks! SusunW (talk) 20:11, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

SusunW: I found this particularly interesting as I have visited Tallinn several times myself in connection with cultural heritage projects. Today the city certainly maintains access to a well preserved old town without any major thoroughfares, in line with Üprus' plans. Much of the history of Tallinn is rather difficult to follow as until the early 20th century it was known as Reval.--Ipigott (talk) 11:21, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am so glad you enjoyed it and am thankful for your help. In my mind when she said they uncovered the manors using 3 topographical maps, one was in German, one in Russian, and one in Estonian. She didn't say that, but I noted when reading the sources in German, things had different names (reminded me of working on Transylvanians). I wish I could understand the film that I found, but it has no subtitles :(. I might look for info on her sister, who was an artist. SusunW (talk) 14:15, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
SusunW You're so good at turning up relevant details that you could probably make a pretty good job of Hilda. Lilian Hansar looks as if she might deserve to be covered too but I know you are not too keen to write about living people.--Ipigott (talk) 15:15, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, lots of interesting red links here. I am scouring the Estonian newspapers now to see what I can dig up. Her work is lovely, but I'm not finding enough yet to meet "artist". SusunW (talk) 15:23, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Can't scrape up enough to meet GNG or artist. Perhaps someone who speaks Estonian can. But there is only 1 detailed analysis of one painting that I could find and no record of holdings. :( SusunW (talk) 16:11, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What about this?. The Google translation is not too bad. There are also indications here. Also some background in connection with her paintings. But these are probably not sufficient.--Ipigott (talk) 16:32, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's a great article. Other than 1 line mentions, I found this p 42, but I still think it probably isn't yet enough. SusunW (talk) 19:19, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'd appreciate it if you took a look at this. (I don't really know how to consolidate references because I used a few multiple times) Abzeronow (talk) 19:10, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, Abzeronow. Somehow I missed your message until now. I think I've managed to consolidate the repeated refs. You'll see it's just a matter of finding a suitable name for the first one in the form ref name=whatever and then using ref name=whatever/ (with a slash) for the others. Let me know if you run into any other problems. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 05:57, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you have the time or inclination could you look this one over. Very frustrated that I could not figure out what schools she attended, but perhaps someone will be able to find that. SusunW (talk) 21:28, 13 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

SusunW: Very little to do on this one. As for the schools, it looks to me as if you have covered the most important ones. As far as I can see, the Bulgarian article does not provide any additional details, naming only the Main Girls' School in Gabrovo.--Ipigott (talk) 06:57, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The problem with medicine (and law) in this time frame is that one could earn credentials either through a university or through a private hospital or firm. So I just don't know. I was also confused about why her patronymic was used as a surname, but learned that that was common in Bulgaria. I love learning stuff! Thank you for your help! May music

May songs
my story today

I had a good story on coronation day: the Te Deum we sang that day. And the following day we sang it for the composer ;)

I heard pleasant music today - did you know a string quartet with two cellos (and no article yet in English? - I nominated Soňa Červená for GA just to give her a bit more exposure. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:13, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all the improvements you've been making to Soňa Červená. Certainly looks like a good candidate for GA.--Ipigott (talk) 05:27, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Notability guideline

Hi. We had talked a few weeks back and you motivated me to participate in WIR. I recently upgraded and helped to create articles for some of the notable pornographic actresses (Mia Malkova, Eva Elfie and Abella Danger). Now I was thinking about creating an article for Jia Lissa, one of my favourite actress. She already has article in numerous other languages. A search for her name in Russian as Джиа Лисса is showing up some good sources. But I'm unsure about it's notability. Do you know any editors who are willing to help and is interested in editing pornography related articles.? Thilsebatti (talk) 05:31, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Thilsebatti, for asking for my advice on this but I'm afraid I'm not very interested in pornographic actresses. You will need to take account of general requirements for notability such as significant coverage in independent sources including newspapers, awards write-ups and critical assessments. You can use sources from articles in other language versions of Wikipedia providing they offer meaningful details and not just short mentions of the subject. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 05:54, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Ipigott. I went through many past AFD's related to pornography. According to my analysis Jia Lissa meets our GNG criteria from the sources available. But I'm unsure about it's reliability. Is there any tools available to check the reliabity of sources? I'm planning to create an article on her. Thank you for your opinion:) Thilsebatti (talk) 05:59, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have found the script at User:Headbomb/unreliable to check reliability! Thilsebatti (talk) 07:49, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Linking commons file

Greetings! The images of Pamelia Hill are found in Wikimedia commons in different name, Pamelia E. Hill. I just want to clarify whether the 'commonscat' tag will link the file, which is in another name?. Or Does it require redirect? This is to request your assistance. Thank you so much for your valuable time. With thanks & regards, Thirukannan (talk) 17:11, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thirukannan: For them to show up properly, they need to be categorized Pamelia Hill on Commons.--Ipigott (talk) 05:49, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for the response. Somehow I tried to link. Please rectify if it not proper. Thirukannan (talk) 07:29, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thirukannan: Looks good.--Ipigott (talk) 10:44, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Looking for an education person I ran across the name Hermína Benická-Verešová and realized we had a poorly sourced article on her under a completely different name. I think I have worked through the available sources (and made a gazillion redirects), but if you could give it a copy edit, I would appreciate it. No worries if you are too busy. SusunW (talk) 18:33, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

SusunW: Not much to do about this one except that Rousseau was Swiss not French.--Ipigott (talk) 12:20, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much. It was hard to write with place and people's names given in various sources in Slovak, Hungarian, and German. They seemed to be different but weren't in the end. I shall never understand the propensity to translate names. I am not Susanna, never will be Susanna and certainly am not Susie. I could care less if someone pronounces me Soosoon but don't change my name. My agency, my choice, not someone else's. (And it's bloody confusing to the hapless editor who is trying to sort it out.) SusunW (talk) 14:54, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm apparently much less fussy about my name than you are. Ian is difficult for foreigners, In France I've been called Yann, in Spain Juan and in Sweden Jon. I'll never forget your first reply to me when I mistook your name as Susan. But names of towns and regions are enormously confusing, especially in the central European countries.--Ipigott (talk) 19:19, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You wouldn't believe the pronunciations I get from people when I have interacted with them, especially from my days living in Haines. That's why I went ahead and put it out there on my Userpage. I traveled the ferries during tourist season and had quite a few conversations with people from all over the world that visited our little corner, not to mention my conversations with locals from Juneau and Skagway. It was strange and confusing at times but also very entertaining. I learned a lot just from watching people and listening to them speak, exploring their experiences as they retold them. --ARoseWolf 19:31, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I truly expect people to mispronounce my name if they see it written first. What I cannot fathom is how many times I have spelled it (first and last) and it still is written wrong, because no one was listening? Ah well, such is what makes life interesting. And yes, ARoseWolf, I love how much you learn from listening to people. SusunW (talk) 19:42, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Susun, I just have always seen you as a ray of sunshine so spelling it has never been a problem. I adore you and love reading the articles you create. No matter what you always shine through for me like the sunlight touching my face through the brush and the trees on Summer trail adventures hunting for wild flowers. --ARoseWolf 19:51, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've been working on this couple in between lab tests and consults for my husband's ear infection. Most sources treat them as a couple, but they lived quite separate experiences and I wanted to work them together to ensure that it was clear each was notable in their own right, but that the overlapping information was consistent. If you have the time and inclination, I'd appreciate your copyedits and comments. SusunW (talk) 15:36, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

http://Dp.la has a number of letters between them. I could grab a few for On commons if you tell me which you like. Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 8.4% of all FPs. 17:15, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That'd be cool Adam Cuerden, but I am not sure if we can use them. I posted on George's page to ask, because to me the licensing is pretty murky. But, please, if you have ideas about it post there. SusunW (talk) 18:06, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've now had time to go through Primus.--Ipigott (talk) 10
00, 3 June 2023 (UTC)
Also finished Addie Brown. SusunW, just let me know if anything else needs attention.--Ipigott (talk) 09:35, 4 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much, Ian. I truly appreciate it. As soon as Adam or George can get photos of some of the letters, I think we'll be ready on them. SusunW (talk) 12:56, 4 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What d'ye think of the image I found for her? Not sure how much work it's worth putting in - that is not a human waistline - so thought I'd run it by you. Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 8.4% of all FPs. 16:53, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

As if I haven't overburdened you already, asking you to look at Primus and Brown, I have another that I think is ready for GA nomination. Gerda found her and asked for help. It had huge sections of OR in the article, so what started as a little bit of light editing for an in the news post about her death, ended up as a complete rewrite of the article. It was really difficult because very few reviews of her work were in English, so I was trying to understand her theories while translating from French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, etc. It is very clear she was an important and influential women's studies scholar and I was happy that Gerda had alerted me to the shape the article was in. If you have the time, could you look her over for me as well? I appreciate you. SusunW (talk) 13:40, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Looks very interesting, SusunW. Please overburden me as much as you like. I've reached the stage where I think it is more important to help other contributors than to create more new articles myself. I have no difficulty with French, German. Spanish and Portuguese although Japanese is another matter. I've twice visited Japan on business and picked up quite a bit of the spoken language but never managed to come to grips with the writing.--Ipigott (talk) 17:28, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You are very gracious and I appreciate you. We're still trying to sort out images for Brown's article, although I have found some for Primus's. Mies is done, I think. The Japanese article was critical, as it explained her iceberg model, of which the image was the only thing I could use from the whole OR section that I deleted. I truly thank you for your help. SusunW (talk) 18:01, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Done - rather a difficult one. Hope it's OK now.--Ipigott (talk) 10:00, 3 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it was. As I said, trying to understand her theories, but also having to translate them from various languages, so that I could even compose text was very hard. It took me several days. But I felt she was an important women's studies scholar and deserved a much better article than we had. We have yet another doctor's appointment today but when I return, I'll go through it and nominate it. I truly appreciate your help. SusunW (talk) 14:18, 3 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
SusunW: It's good to know you double check everything. I see that in this case some further changes were necessary. I'll try to get into the habit of reading things through more carefully., I missed some items needing to be adapted to British (or Indian?) English. As she was German, I initially started adapting to American English before I realized what you intended. Looks fine now. Interesting that she came from the Eifel. I know the district well as it is not far from Luxembourg. We frequently drive past Prüm ad Gerolstein on our way to and from Denmark.--Ipigott (talk) 09:51, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Susun, have you ever considered cutting back on your workload and spending some time working on becoming fluent in reading a language or two? The time I've spent with languages the last few years has been very worthwhile! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:42, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Her husband was Indian and he worked with her on some of the earliest translations, so I figured that her English was probably closer to British than AE. I honestly have no idea, but it seemed logical. It's never a problem for me for an article to be in AE or BE or both, but lots of people are triggered by using "the wrong one" or mixing them up, it seems. Hey Dr. Blofeld good to see you. The thought truly never crossed my mind. The gift of learning languages is not mine. I've lived in Mexico for over a decade and still speak Spanish badly, after numerous courses. Listening and hearing what is said is worse, although obviously I hear it everywhere every day. It was Ian who pointed out to me that the speed in which Spanish is spoken is likely a problem. I hear slow, I'm from the South. :) That said, I never let language hold me up. I stumble through with humility and apologies and if it is to learn something, I just dive in with multiple translation programs. Language is never a barrier to learning, IMO. SusunW (talk) 14:08, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think they speak even faster in mainland Spain :-). Google translate is good when you paste in text from Spanish wiki and press twice, slows it down! I still find German tough to read in particular, even Gerda Arendt says De wiki is tough to read and she's a native speaker!. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:02, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I use Google translate, Microsoft translate, systrans, and Yandex. Each is good for different languages, I've found. For example, Yandex is better on Cyrillic translations and systrans for Dutch. I studied Latin roots (I was a chemistry major), so reading things based on Latin intuitively gives me an idea. German isn't so it's hard and French is, but for whatever reason, I find it far harder than any of the other romance languages. SusunW (talk) 15:11, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I must say, SusunW, your use of machine translation systems is impressive. I don't know of any other Wikipedian who consistently draws on them for so many languages. As I spent so many years developing it for European language combinations, I feel obliged to point our that it's Systran, not Systrans. On the subject of Romance languages, the one I have most difficulty with is Romanian as it has so many loan words from Slavic languages. I agree that the level of language used in the German Wikipedia tends to be significantly more academic than in other versions, making reading rather heavy for the non-initiate. That said, I'm frequently impressed with the trouble contributors take to base their articles on literary sources, often citing books which are not accessible over the internet. Thus practise seems to be more widely accepted than in English where contributors are unfortunately urged to use easily verifiable sources. I've noticed that articles submitted to AfC are frequently refused if they do not cite sources which can be easily checked by Google search, while Google is constantly suggested as the principal means of finding satisfactory sources.--Ipigott (talk) 06:12, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the correction Ian, nevertheless, Systran is the best I've found for Dutch and particularly the Surinamese or Caribbean versions. If I am trying to follow a news story in the Caribbean in one of the Dutch islands and run it through Google, it's impossible to understand. Funny that I have trouble with French and you with Romanian, which is easier to me for some reason. But yes, I write about a lot of immigrants so I usually encounter multiple languages in a single article. But also, it's hard for deletionists to argue a person isn't notable if they have had coverage in numerous languages and countries. I rely on you and appreciate your help always in improving the articles I write. SusunW (talk) 14:46, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

June songs

June songs
my story today

I like today's Main page, and here's why ;) - (DYK that we got filmed when performing the piece mentioned?) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:21, 2 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Interesting item on the boys choir.--Ipigott (talk) 06:01, 4 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Last weekend was nice, class reunion a funny number of years after completing school, and the lovely park where I spent many Sundays as a child. Today's story - back to a woman! - is quite dramatic, there's a yt trailer to the hook. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:04, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Tajamul Islam

Hi, If you have a minute would you mind taking a look at this AfD ? articles about female role model are rare so your opinion on the subject would be appreciated. Thank you! Lewolka (talk) 09:10, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for getting in touch, Lewolka. As it stands, the article looks very weak to me. If you can expand it with informative press reports or coverage of the awards ceremonies it might be acceptable but it will need considerable work.--Ipigott (talk) 10:38, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your quick reply @Ipigott! I totally agree as you can see from my assessment, fingers crossed the other editors voting on the AfD will feel the same! All my best Lewolka (talk) 10:47, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again, I rewrote the article, what do you think? sorry to bug you with this, unbiased opinions are rare these days! Lewolka (talk) 15:25, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Lewolka: Perhaps you can help me by telling me which citations include detailed information from an independent secondary source.--Ipigott (talk) 19:01, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please disregard request, it's been deleted now. Best Lewolka (talk) 06:06, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Reventlowsgade

Hi Ipigott. I have unfortunately had User talk:Ramblersen2#Draft:Reventlowsgade but still intended to do further work on it. I never understood why it was moved to draft space in the first place but was waiting for some ongoing redesign to be completed to be able to use more updated media coverage and images. Do you know if it is possible for me to get access to the deleted dtraft, so I can continue work on it in a sandbox?Ramblersen2 (talk) 08:10, 9 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Rosiestep: Could you help to restore a draft of this deleted article on Reventlowsgade for Ramblersen2 who consistently performs excellent work on Danish streets and buildings.--Ipigott (talk) 13:08, 9 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wish I could help, but not sure I know how to do this one. There are instructions for Ramblersen2 on how to make the request here: User talk:Ramblersen2#Your draft article, Draft:Reventlowsgade. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:00, 9 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ramblersen2: I see the draft has now been restored and that you have been working on it. I've corrected a few typos and moved it to article space where you can continue to work on it if you wish.--Ipigott (talk) 06:18, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Happy to know that this has been sorted out. --Rosiestep (talk) 07:52, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank ypu so much to both of you for helping with this. Ipigott, could you perhaps also have a look at Draft:Steen Beck. It is just a quick stub but I think it is quite obvious that he is notable and that it should therefore never have been to draft space in the first place.Ramblersen2 (talk) 08:53, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
