Wikidemia

I noticed you signed up as a member for the Wikidemia project on academic research about Wikipedia, and just wanted to say that I'm very enthusiastic to work with you on this. Looking forward to reading your ideas! Tobacman 02:10, 8 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:JohnReid3.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:JohnReid3.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{gfdl}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairuse}}. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by going to "Your contributions" from your user page and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much. --Arniep 15:46, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Merit badge article

All of JohnDBuell's objections to Merit badge collecting (BSA) have been fixed and he now supports this article for [[1]]. Since you concurred with him initially, I thought you may now consider supporting it too. Please let me know if you have more concerns. Thank you for looking at it. Godmode light

Hi. I re-reverted your revert (oi) to RuneScape. Are you using the latest version of godmode light? There was a bug in the previous version that would cause > or < to become html escape characters. I'll try to find where I heard about the bug and post it here. --Syrthiss 19:32, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Here you go, this is the latest version afaik. If this is the one you were referencing then I might be able to find another out in wikiland. [2] --Syrthiss 19:35, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

When you made your edit to the AfD page there was a contribution by an anon. Prior to that there were some valid edits. I've restored the thing back but you may want to look and see if your edit looks OK. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 20:10, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

William Cheung talk page

Dude! You just reverted the talk page. I accidentally pasted the article in the William Cheung talk page, and deleted it straight after. I'm going to blank in again, but if you know more about this than me, feel free to revert it back and I won't touch it. 220.245.178.136 14:52, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Message From You

I just got a message from you accusing me of vandalism! I haven't touched any wikipedia articles, I only read them! I have no idea why you said I have vandalized anything - please help! I don't want to get kicked off for no reason! 128.220.251.100 02:41, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Merit badge FAC

I have re-submitted the article Merit badge types (BSA) as a FAC. Any input you may have would be appreciated.Rlevse 13:43, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you created a page InfW with a warning about vandalism. Perhaps you meant to write this to a user page? --Austrian 21:44, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Some advice please

Here's a real life question. I looked up an article written about my old college. Although its factually correct, I dont think it is presented properly. I'd like to discuss this with the author rather than launching into an edit. Is there a way I can find out who that is, and how to contact him/her?Sjaycee 23:15, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for your support on my request for adminiship, I'm sure you'll be glad to know the final result was 92/1/0. I am now an administrator and (as always) if I do anything you have issue with, please talk about it with me. --Alf melmac 10:11, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your support on my request for adminship.

The final outcome was (80/3/0), so I am now an administrator. I was flattered by the level of support and the comments, so I'm under real pressure not to disappoint, thus if you have any queries, suggestions or problems with any of my actions as an admin then please leave me a note --pgk(talk) 11:41, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Broken editor

Whatever tool you are using to edit articles appears to be broken. You broke Articles for creation for several hours today. Please fix your tool. Uncle G 11:17, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I just wanted to ask why you proposed merging these two articles? In my mind they are two very different subjects. TCF Bank is the company which provides banking services in six states (soon seven). TCF Financial Corporation is a holding company. In addition to the bank TCF Financial also owns subsidiaries offering insurance, annuities, brokerage products, and nation-wide equipment leasing. I have made a few changes in case this distinction was not clear. But I don't think it's appropriate to merge an article on a major subsidiary into the holding company's article (it would be like merging NBC into NBC Universal and then into General Electric). My RfA nomination

I accept, and I thank you for putting the trust in me, even if it is too early. Ian13ID:540053 22:23, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have withdrawn my acceptance, due to growing oppose votes due to my lack of experence (and because of userboxes?). I will now aim to continue, and broadern my scope from userboxes. I will accept a nomination, should one be made, in 1-2 months. Ian13ID:540053 18:26, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, that's cool. Most of the oppose reasons were shite. I think it is just the experience. I shall do it again in mid-Februaryish. ComputerJoe 18:28, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would personally prefer late feb. I had oppose votes because I had 'too many userboxes'! Ian13ID:540053 18:30, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

CJ Chief Executive

I'll take that over until you return, sure. I'll try to be spreading the word about CJ so we can get enough people to have a proper vote when you come back. - Pureblade | Θ 18:45, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there - I noticed you nominated this article for deletion, but (I assume) forgot to create the associated page describing why you think it should be deleted: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kamilism. Cheers! --PeruvianLlama(spit) 23:22, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Broken_hearts1.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Broken_hearts1.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. --OrphanBot 07:01, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OrphanBot

Okay, please explain this [3]. ComputerJoe 18:29, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What's to explain about it? You uploaded an image and tagged it with the copyright status of "I don't know" ({{Don't know}}), so OrphanBot removed it from the article using the image. --Carnildo 02:40, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you nominate the list of rhetorical terms for deletion?

Pardon me, but I'm wondering why you chose to list our list of rhetorical terms for deletion. Can you explain your rationale? I'm assuming there is one. This is part of a class project, and I don't appreciate the negativity. Thanks. --Matt 16:22, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your vote on the RFR poll

Hi, Computerjoe, thanks for voting on the RFR poll. If you could explain why you voted oppose, this would help greatly in working out a way to improve the proposal. Thanks, Talrias (t | e | c) 22:15, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Blanking Pre-verbal insult...

I didn't blank the page. I took out the deletion box out because I found a reference to quiet Zharcon down. I left the content. And I blanked my talk page because I don't like clutter. Mjformica 17:10, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why am I "under no circumstances" not allowed to remove a deletion box. And, as for my lack of civility, I am having a disagreement with an individual who has no premise for disagree with my post. I would suggest that this would be trying to anyone's patience. I consider his actions to be hostile, especially in that I have explained his misunderstanding to him several different ways, several different times. Mjformica 17:22, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Even if the premise for the call for deletion is wrong? That's absurd! Mjformica 17:25, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
PS -- if "Near as I can tell, you are a minor fictional diety." is what you are referring to as my incivilty, you might want to follow the path of the "nominator's" nametag...you will find that his tag refers to a minor fictional diety from the HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and he points you there. I was making a statement of fact, and, secondarily, pointing out that I have no way of knowing what authority he has to argue a point upon which he is clearly wrong. no has he provided any support for his authority other than dogged relying on rules. That's ego where I live.

Mjformica 17:32, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am not vandalizing. I am clearing off my User Talk page. How am I supposed to know that removing a warning is vandalism? Man, you guys have just way too many rules for people who are supposed to be promoting free speech. Mjformica 20:30, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

An Esperanzial note

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)

Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Computerjoe, I'm sorry to say that I had to remove your name from the judges section. 5 judges is the limit! You are more than welcome to nominate your user page, or a friends to be judged! Be sure to check in for the next contest first 5 users to sign up get to be the judges. Thanks KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 20:09, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's quite alright. After each contest the judges names will be cleared out. Again thanks for participating. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 20:13, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Computerjoe, for the welcome to Wikipedia! I'm still navigating my way around here, and learning the Wikicodes, it's quite different from HTML I see! See you around.. LissaExplains 00:52, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I notice you added the CrownCopyright license to the above image. Some government sites allow use of CC material, providing it is identified as such. However the MOD is one of the government organisations which does not allow use of CC material featured on its website without prior permission. (A partial list is available at Template talk:CrownCopyright). As you haven't stated you had such permission I've replaced the image with a public domain image from the US DOD. Regards, Mark83 20:15, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not a problem. btw, your signature/cursor effect is a nice touch. Mark83 21:55, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the offer, but I wouldn't like the appearance of being a "copy-cat." Plus I'm lazy, just hitting ~ four times works for me! Mark83 23:34, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Marine Park Race Attack

Just wanted to make sure you realized that the above article is not over a year old. It is actually less than a month old. It was in the Feb 2005 clean-up category because of a typo by the person who tagged it for clean-up. The article is about an incident less than a year old, anyway. None of that lessens the need for it to be cleaned up, but I just wanted to make sure you were not working from incorrect assumptions. - TexasAndroid 21:58, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Azuth cleanup?

Can you see further work that is needed on the Azuth article? It looks good to me, except possibly for the dogma section that reads like a quote and might be in the wrong tone for an encyclopedia. I copied the whole article into word, which has run time spell checking, and it caught a couple of words tonight. RJFJR 03:01, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RfA Thanks!

Okay, this is perhaps a bit overdue, but thank-you for your support in my recent RfA! I passed with a final vote count consensus of (82/1/0), which was a lot of support that I really appreciate. I'll try to live up to the expectations; and on that note, if there's ever something I do wrong (or don't do right), please spit in my general direction. Cheers! --PeruvianLlama(spit) 05:31, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
