Chengdu (成都, pinyin cheng2 du1) is the capital of the Sichuan province, located in southwest China, and bordering Tibet. Its exact location is between 102 degrees 54 minutes - 104 degrees 53 minutes east longitude and 30 degrees 5 minutes - 31 degrees 26 minutes north latitude.

Chengdu has a population of 9.9 million and an area of 12,300 square kilometers.

The name "Chengdu" comes from the Chinese words "cheng", meaning change, and "du", meaning capital or metropolis. Thus, the name of the city roughly translates into "Changing Metropolis".
