Bir IV (Biri bin Dunama[1]) was the mai of the Kanem–Bornu Empire in 1444–1445,[1] ruling during a century-long chaotic period of internal and external conflict.
Life
[edit]Bir's father was named Dunama, perhaps the same figure as mai Dunama IV[2] (r. 1423–1425).[1] In 1444, mai Kade III was defeated and killed by his rival Dunama V Ahmad.[3] Bir IV was then made mai.[1][2] Bir ruled very briefly, being succeeded by Dunama V Ahmad as mai in 1445.[1]
