Buff Dormeier
Buff Dormeier is an American technical analyst and author known for his work in volume-based market analysis. He is recognized for introducing methodologies that emphasize the role of volume and capital flows in asset pricing, particularly through a framework known as the Volume Factor.[1]
Education
[edit]Dormeier holds a bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Indiana State University.[2] He also holds the Chartered Market Technician (CMT) designation, a professional certification for technical analysts.
Career
[edit]Dormeier serves as Chief Technical Analyst at Kingsview Investment Management. He is also an Index Specialist for Monarch Funds ETFs, where he is involved in the design and application of index-based investment strategies.[3] He is associated with the development and maintenance of the Monarch Volume Factor ETFs.[4]
Dormeier has contributed to volume-based market research through the creation of various technical indicators. The Volume Factor is a market analysis approach developed by Dormeier.[5] It treats volume, particularly capital-weighted volume, as a primary component in market evaluation.[6] The method examines fund flows and volume patterns across indexes to identify changes in market behavior. It is positioned as an alternative to traditional price- or fundamental-based strategies.[7][8]
The Volume Factor has been the subject of academic review. A study by Dr. Matthew Lutey, published in the Journal of Applied Business and Economics (Vol. 22, No. 3, 2022), tested the framework using the Fama-French factor model. The study reported a p-value of 0.0001, indicating statistical relevance within the tested parameters.
