Che (born August 29, 2006), also known by his former stage name cheRomani+,[2] is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer from Atlanta, Georgia. He gained recognition in the early 2020s through viral tracks on TikTok and streaming platforms, particularly for his songs "Agenda", "Miley Cyrus", and "Pizza Time".
Personal life
[edit]Che was born on August 29, 2006 in Atlanta, Georgia. He began experimenting with music production in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, initially under the alias murkio!. Before pursuing music, he had no intentions of entering the industry. He was affiliated with the collective, 4ersona. His early work was influenced by the pluggnB and rage rap scenes.[3] He has cited Lil Tecca, Chief Keef, Playboi Carti, and Paramore as his early music inspirations.[4][5][6]
Career
[edit]2020–2022: Career beginnings and breakthrough
[edit]Che began making music to SoundCloud under the alias murkio! in 2021.[7] Under his former stage name, cheRomani+, his breakout came in August 2021 with the remix to Yeat's "Off Tha Lot", which gained significant traction on TikTok, amassing millions of streams.
On December 2021, Che's single, "Agenda", was released and drew lots of attention on various social media platforms. Following the success of it, he then follows up with a sequel, "The Final Agenda", which again also received praise from the underground community, helping elevate his name in the industry. On May 2022, he released his debut EP titled 3, blending traditional underground styles with experimental elements.[8]
2023–present: Closed Captions, Crueger, and Sayso Says
[edit]By 2023, Che started settling on his current moniker with the signing to 10K Projects. On February 2023, he released "Blac Chyna", the lead single for his debut mixtape, Closed Captions; a week prior the release of the mixtape, he released "Bluberry Bakwood", as a rollout single along with a music video.
On October 2023, Che released his second EP, Before Crueger, a two-track EP including "Japan" and "Tony Tony" as a teaser. The same year, he then later released his third EP, Crueger, a nine-track EP on October 31.
By 2024, Che released "Miley Cyrus", one of the rollout singles for his debut album Sayso Says, on March 27, along with a music video released on April 4, directed by NoahSoCold which features haunting visuals created with artificial intelligence. He then released "Pizza Time", along with a music video on May 29; like "Miley Cyrus", the song saw considerable success online with a great reception from music critics for Pitchfork.[9] On August 30, 2024, Che released his debut studio album, Sayso Says. Che has also announced a forthcoming album titled Rest In Bass, anticipated in 2025.[10]
Musical style
[edit]Che’s sound is defined by a fusion of pluggnB, rage, and trap, with melodic flows, glitchy autotune, and electronic-driven production. Critics have noted his distinctive approach to blending vocal effects with atmospheric instrumentals.[8]
