The Stockholm based A PROJECTION^[1] is a post punk / darkwave band founded in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2013. From the start, the main influences were groups like The Cure, Joy Division/New Order, Sisters of Mercy, Interpol, and Editors. Electronic acts like Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, D.A.F. and The Knife were also important influences^[2].

Although sometimes spilling over into adjacent genres like indie and goth, the first three albums (Exit, Framework and Section) were rather firmly rooted in the post punk genre, developing from a rather hard-boiled, minimalistic sound into a more readily accessible one, all within the framework of a pretty strict post-punk aesthetic and attitude^[3].

During Covid, a couple of members were changed, and the former bassist became the main vocalist. The band also changed record company from the more indie oriented Tapete Records^[4] to the genre-wise more well-suited Metropolis Records^[5]. The sound of A PROJECTION shifted towards a more synth-based style with a lot of influences from both the 80s, contemporary darkwave and mainstream hit lists.

The A PROJECTION sound has been described as “a danceable mixture of post punk and electronica, with both depth and edge, bright colors and darkness.".^[6]

The latest album, In a Different Light, in which external musicians like e.g. Sarah Boom from Turquoise and Henrik Linder from Dirty Loops participated^[7]^[8], was reviewed as one of the best albums of the year^[9] by Synthpop Fanatic. Maximum Volume Music gave it 9 out of 10 in an article^[10]. Several songs from this album also received good reviews. For example, Indie Music Nation rated the song “Careless” as No 1 in 2022^[11], Synthpop Fanatic placed “Anywhere” at the top 75 list of synthpop songs in 2022^[12], and Martin Brandhill at the Swedish website synth.nu claimed that "Darwin's Eden is already one of the most important songs in the genre for the 2020s"^[13].

While playing live, A PROJECTION is known for its energetic melodies and emotional and engaging stage presence"^[14]^[15]

The band has been touring since 2013 and has appeared on festivals such as Amphi Festival, Autumn Moon Festival, BatFiSH Festival, Dark Spring Festival (headlining), Devilstone Festival, Extramuralhas Festival, M’era Luna, Minicave-Festival (headlining), Mörk Stad, the NCN festival, Oakfield Festival, Owls 'n' Bats Festival (headlining), Plage Noire Festival, Salafestivalen, Subkultfestivalen, Wavefest, Wave-Gotik-Treffen, the Wilwarin Festival and the Shadowplay Festival.
