Alecsys Proctor-Turner is a Bahamian-American actress known for her role as Nala in Netflix's Survival of the Thickest.

Early Life and Education

Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Proctor-Turner is the daughter of Tara D. Turner. She began her artistic journey at a young age, participating in theater productions such as Annie in second grade. Elementary: Perrine Elementary, Middle school: Southwood Middle school, Highschool: New World School of the Arts. Proctor-Turner earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Theatre from the University of Miami and a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from Columbia University, where she studied under Ron Van Lieu.

Career

Proctor-Turner made her television debut in 2025 with a recurring role as Nala in Netflix's Survival of the Thickest, a comedy-drama series co-created by Michelle Buteau and Danielle Sanchez-Witzel. The series, which premiered in July 2023, follows Mavis Beaumont, a Black, plus-size stylist navigating life and love in New York City. Proctor-Turner's character, Nala, is a fashion student and assistant to Mavis, known for her vibrant personality and fashion insights.

In addition to her television work, Proctor-Turner has an extensive background in theater. She has performed in various productions, including Ragtime, Little Shop of Horrors, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Wild Party, and world premiere of Harlem and Moscow.

Personal Life

Proctor-Turner is a proud Bahamian-American artist who values storytelling that amplifies underrepresented voices. She attributes her passion for the arts and activism to her mother, who instilled in her the belief that all voices have value.
