Amy Marie Borg (born 2001) is a Maltese soprano known for her performances on the 2018 season of the British television talent competition Britain's Got Talent. She reached the semi-finals and received widespread praise for her powerful soprano voice.[1]

Early life

Amy Marie Borg was born and raised in Malta. She is of British descent, with family roots in Manchester and Lancashire. From a young age, she showed a passion for singing and classical music, which she pursued through formal training and local performances.[1]

Borg began her vocal training under soprano Rosabelle Bianchi, later continuing with Alison Ellul, and eventually studying with the renowned late Juliette Bisazza Zanni, who played a significant role in shaping her classical technique and performance style.

Early Competitions

Before her Junior Eurovision journey, Amy Marie Borg was a finalist in KKI Junior 2014 (Festival Kanzunetta Indipendenza Junior), a popular Maltese music competition for young performers.[2] The Festival Kanzunetta Indipendenza has a long tradition in Malta, celebrating Maltese music and culture. This early achievement provided Amy with valuable experience and recognition in the Maltese music scene.

Junior Eurovision

Amy Marie Borg began her singing career at a young age and reached the finals of Malta’s national selection for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015.[3] This early experience helped shape her classical crossover style and prepared her for later success on Britain’s Got Talent.[4]

Career

In 2018, Borg auditioned for the twelfth series of Britain's Got Talent (series 12) (BGT) with a classical crossover performance that impressed both judges and viewers.[5] She advanced through several rounds, earning a place in the semi-finals.[6] Her performances received standing ovations and positive critical reception.[7]

Although she did not advance to the final round, her appearances helped raise her profile internationally.[8] Following the show, Borg has continued to develop her singing career, performing at various events both in Malta and abroad.[9]

Britain's Got Talent

In 2018, at the age of 16, Borg auditioned for the twelfth series of Britain's Got Talent. Her rendition of Nella Fantasia impressed the judges and audience alike, earning her a standing ovation and widespread media coverage. Simon Cowell remarked that her voice was “absolutely stunning”.[10]

Following her audition, she progressed to the semi-finals, where she performed a classical piece to strong applause. Her journey was featured in several national publications including The Mirror, OK! Magazine, and The Sun.[11][12][13]

Judging and Mentoring

In 2018, Amy Marie Borg joined the judging panel of *Sajf ma’ Gaffiero*, a televised Maltese talent show for young singers produced by Gaffiero Productions.[14] She has since returned as a vocal judge for multiple Gaffiero Productions competitions, mentoring emerging vocal talent and sharing her expertise in classical and crossover singing.
