Aniimo is an upcoming free-to-play open-world action role-playing game developed by Pawprint Studio and published by Kingsglory Games, a cross-platform label established by FunPlus. It is scheduled for release in 2026 on Microsoft Windows, Xbox Series X/S (with Xbox Play Anywhere support), and mobile devices.[1][2][3]
Gameplay
[edit]In Aniimo, players take on the role of "Pathfinders" exploring the world of Idyll, a large and diverse open world. The central gameplay revolves around discovering, collecting, and evolving magical creatures called Aniimo. Players can form a deep bond with these creatures through a unique mechanic known as Twining, which allows them to merge with their Aniimo to unlock new abilities and gameplay perspectives.[2]
The game features both PvE and PvP modes, real-time combat, dungeon exploration, and puzzle-solving. It supports single-player and cooperative multiplayer gameplay. The Aniimo creatures themselves are customizable and upgradable, with evolution and research systems allowing for player-driven progression.[4]
Development
[edit]Aniimo is the debut title of Kingsglory, a publishing division of FunPlus created to support high-end, cross-platform game development. It was officially announced during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8, 2025, with an initial gameplay trailer.[2][4]
A closed beta test for PC is planned for the summer of 2025, with sign-ups open on the official website.[1]
According to Kingsglory’s chairman Chris Petrovic, the title represents the publisher’s commitment to “IP-driven cross-platform experiences” and aims to evolve through community feedback gathered during the beta testing phase.[2]
Executive producer Jovi Zhang of Pawprint Studio described the game as an effort to fulfill “dreams of the ideal creature-collecting game,” emphasizing the attention to detail in creature personalities, stories, and the game’s environment.[1]
Design and Setting
[edit]The game’s world, Idyll, is described as dynamic and interactive, designed to encourage exploration and experimentation. Its environments include varied ecosystems and dungeons. The creature designs, while reminiscent of those in franchises like Pokémon or Temtem, aim to differentiate through the Twining mechanic, which integrates the player's progression directly with their creature partner.[3][5]
Comparisons and Legal Context
[edit]Following its reveal, some commentators compared Aniimo to other games in the creature-collecting genre such as Palworld and Pokémon. Discussions have emerged around potential legal scrutiny due to similarities in theme and aesthetics. However, analysts note that Aniimo introduces original gameplay concepts, particularly the Twining system, which may help it avoid legal challenges similar to those faced by Palworld.[5]
Reception
[edit]While the game has not yet launched, its debut trailer and concept have received early attention from both fans and media. Industry observers have highlighted its high production values, cross-platform ambitions, and the potential to challenge established genre conventions.
