Animal Company is a 2024 virtual reality adventure and action game developed and released by Wooster Games. The game involves controlling legless animals through hand movements to interact with others online casually. As of June 2025, Animal Company is only on Meta Quest, although it has been announced that it will be coming to SteamVR.[1] Animal Company takes inspiration from Gorilla Tag by including its arm-powered locomotion mechanic and low-poly animal avatars,[2] but it switches things up by essentially replicating the game loop of Lethal Company, which is where the name comes from.[2]
Background
[edit]Spatial was founded in 2017 by Anand Agarawala and Jinha Lee. The company designed its first product, the Spatial AR collaboration workspace, intended to transform how people work by turning any room into an infinitely augmentable workspace.[3] Spatial has released several browser-based games on its platform, including Punch Hero, Racing Empire, Infinite Ascent, Shooty Shooty,[4] Mostly Only Up, Buddy Blitz, and Cyber Punk.[5] Spatial established Wooster Games on July 1, 2024.
Development and release
[edit]Spatial created Animal Company as a prototype in late 2023. Spatial began full development in early 2024. Animal Company was released on July 3, 2024.[6]
Gameplay
[edit]Character and movement
[edit]In Animal Company, players can become animals, branching from gorillas to polar bears to frogs. Control focuses on the player's hand movements, allowing the animal to walk, jump by pushing away from surfaces, and climb with its arms. A grip button allows the player to hold on to objects.
Environments
[edit]Multiple environments, such as Forest, the Mines, Office and Dock are available to choose, and a voice chat feature is enabled by default.
Game modes
[edit]- Adventure; a mode where you can go mining or fighting.
- Arena; a mode in which you kill each other to try and mine ores to win.
- Parkour; an Only Up-style mode which has 6 levels going up with no checkpoints.
