Astitva Foundation is a youth-led non-profit organization founded with the heartfelt motto: “One Step Towards Humanity.” Established by engineering students Rishad Zia and Nitul Das from Jorhat Engineering College, the foundation has quickly grown into one of the most impactful and inspiring social initiatives in Jorhat and across Assam.

History and Founding

The story of Astitva began within the corridors of Jorhat Engineering College, where a shared dream of making a meaningful impact brought together a group of compassionate students. Alongside the founders, the core team—Tanaya Kuri, Arnab Pran Kaishyap, and Kristi Malika Baishya Hazarika—joined hands to create a platform that reflects empathy, inclusivity, and action. United by a common goal, they envisioned a world where no one is left behind.

Mission and Vision

Astitva Foundation was born out of a deep sense of empathy and a desire to create real change through simple yet powerful actions. Guided by the belief that even a small step taken with kindness can spark a ripple of transformation, the foundation works across multiple causes—uplifting the underprivileged, caring for stray animals, and advocating for equal access to education.

Astitva strongly advocates for education as a fundamental right—not a privilege. The foundation focuses on supporting children from marginalized communities who are often denied education due to poverty, caste, or religious discrimination. Every child deserves the opportunity to dream, learn, and thrive.

Key Initiatives

1. Clothes Donation Drive (22nd January 2025)

The foundation’s first major initiative marked a powerful beginning. On 22nd January, Astitva organized a large-scale Clothes Donation Drive across Jorhat. Over 500+ students from Jorhat Engineering College participated, collecting and distributing more than 2000 clothing items to the needy. This drive was about more than clothes—it was about restoring dignity, warmth, and hope.

2. Pawlentine Drive (16th February 2025)

During Valentine’s week, Astitva extended its compassion to animals in need. On 16th February, the foundation conducted a vaccination and feeding drive for stray dogs and cats in collaboration with Dr. Laaraa, Rajib Chakraborty Sir, and Nu Animal Welfare Foundation. Dozens of animals were given medical care, food, and affection—reflecting Astitva’s commitment to all lives.

3. Food Distribution Drive (9th March 2025)

Fighting hunger is at the core of Astitva’s mission. On 9th March, the team organized a Food Distribution Drive, providing over 100 food packets to underprivileged children and families in Jorhat. This initiative ensured that, for at least one night, no one had to sleep hungry.

Empowering Through Education

Astitva Foundation is especially committed to the right to education. Recognizing that many children still face barriers to learning due to their socio-economic background, Astitva works to provide them with school supplies, mentorship, and learning opportunities. The goal is to help these children build a brighter, more equitable future—regardless of their caste, creed, or financial condition.

Impact and Reach

What started as an idea in a college classroom has grown into a grassroots movement spreading across Assam. With its base in Jorhat, Astitva Foundation is now touching lives in neighboring districts as well—inspiring youth, uplifting communities, and transforming lives, one act of kindness at a time.
